Evaluating the effects of Natural Resources Conservation Service project implementation on the disturbance-dependent avian community with implications for Blue-winged Warblers

open access: yesAvian Conservation and Ecology, 2023
The Blue-winged Warbler (Vermivora cyanoptera) is a songbird that breeds in eastern deciduous forests of North America. The species is declining, partially due to declines in forest disturbances.

A biochemical framework for anaerobic oxidation of methane driven by Fe(III)-dependent respiration

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Consumption of methane by aerobic and anaerobic microbes governs the atmospheric level of this powerful greenhouse gas. Whereas a biochemical understanding of aerobic methanotrophy is well developed, a mechanistic understanding of anaerobic methanotrophy

Quantitative impacts of invasive Senna spectabilis on distribution of welfare: a household survey of dependent communities in Budongo forest reserve, Uganda [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper presents the results of a household survey designed to qualitatively evaluate the impacts of the invasive alien species Senna spectabilis on the distribution of welfare across dependent communities in Budongo forest reserve (BFR) in Uganda ...

Conservation Easements as Tools to Achieve Regulatory Environmental Goals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Wayburn talks about conservation easements as tools to achieve regulatory environmental goals. The traditional approach to protecting public-trust resources, such as wildlife found on private lands, is predominantly regulatory and proscriptive ...

Aggregation with Multiple Conservation Laws

open access: yes, 1995
Aggregation processes with an arbitrary number of conserved quantities are investigated. On the mean-field level, an exact solution for the size distribution is obtained. The asymptotic form of this solution exhibits nontrivial ``double'' scaling.

Combined stress from parasites, pesticides and lack of flowers drives bee declines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Bees are subject to numerous pressures in the modern world. The abundance and diversity of flowers has declined, bees are chronically exposed to cocktails of agrochemicals, and they are simultaneously exposed to novel parasites accidentally spread by ...

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Connectivity Conservation and Endangered Species Recovery: A Study in the Challenges of Defining Conservation‐Reliant Species

open access: yes, 2015
Many species listed under the US Endangered Species Act (ESA) face continuing threats and will require intervention to address those threats for decades.

Class IIa HDACs forced degradation allows resensitization of oxaliplatin‐resistant FBXW7‐mutated colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
HDAC4 is degraded by the E3 ligase FBXW7. In colorectal cancer, FBXW7 mutations prevent HDAC4 degradation, leading to oxaliplatin resistance. Forced degradation of HDAC4 using a PROTAC compound restores drug sensitivity by resetting the super‐enhancer landscape, reprogramming the epigenetic state of FBXW7‐mutated cells to resemble oxaliplatin ...
