Conservative patterns

Biological Cybernetics, 1987
Conservative patterns dominate the pattern formation of systems governed by competition and limited resources. Using a simple mechanical model the principle of marginal stability, period doubling in space, the existence of conserved values and relations to biological pattern formation are discussed.

Conservation Genetics

Annual Review of Genetics, 1995
Inbreeding depression, accumulation and loss of deleterious mutations, loss of genetic variation in small populations, genetic adaptation to captivity and its effect on reintroduction success, and outbreeding depression are reviewed. The impact of genetic factors in endangerment and extinction has been underestimated in some recent publications ...

CP Conservation in the Presence of Pseudoparticles

, 1977
We give an explanation of the $\mathrm{CP}$ conservation of strong interactions which includes the effects of pseudoparticles. We find it is a natural result for any theory where at least one flavor of fermion acquires its mass through a Yukawa coupling ...

A Room with a Viewpoint: Using Social Norms to Motivate Environmental Conservation in Hotels

, 2008
Two field experiments examined the effectiveness of signs requesting hotel guests' participation in an environmental conservation program. Appeals employing descriptive norms (e.g., "the majority of guests reuse their towels") proved superior to a ...

A review of the major threats and challenges to global bat conservation

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2019
Bats are an ecologically and taxonomically diverse group accounting for roughly a fifth of mammalian diversity worldwide. Many of the threats bats face (e.g., habitat loss, bushmeat hunting, and climate change) reflect the conservation challenges of our ...

Global spread of Conservation Agriculture

International Journal of Environmental Studies, 2018
Conservation Agriculture (CA) comprises the practical application of three interlinked principles, namely: no or minimum mechanical soil disturbance, biomass mulch soil cover and crop species diversification, in conjunction with other complementary good ...

From Conservation Genetics to Conservation Genomics

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2009
Although the application of population and evolutionary genetic theory and methods to address issues of conservation relevance has a long history, the formalization of conservation genetics as a research field is still relatively recent. One of the periodic catalysts for increased research effort in the field has been advances in molecular technologies,
