Findings from a survey of wildlife reintroduction practitioners [v1; ref status: indexed, http://f1000r.es/2or]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2014
Wildlife reintroduction programs are a type of conservation initiative that seek to re-establish viable populations of a species in areas from which they have been extirpated or become extinct.

Ecological conservation and the restoration of freshwater environments in Korea [PDF]

open access: yesPaddy and Water Environment, 2014
Freshwater ecosystems worldwide are subjected to a variety of anthropogenic threats (Malmqvist and Rundle 2002). Inappropriate land use practices, pollutants, overexploitation, and overpopulation have simplified/fragmented aquatic habitats and degraded biodiversity and water quality.

Cladonia lichens on extensive green roofs: evapotranspiration, substrate temperature, and albedo [v2; ref status: indexed, http://f1000r.es/2v4]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2014
Green roofs are constructed ecosystems that provide ecosystem services in urban environments. Shallow substrate green roofs subject the vegetation layer to desiccation and other environmental extremes, so researchers have evaluated a variety of stress ...

Heterotrophy Confers Corals with Resistance but Limits Their Range Expansion: A Case of Marginal Coral Communities

open access: yesEcosystem Health and Sustainability
Climate change may threaten the survival of corals due to ocean warming and increased occurrence of extreme weather events. Yet, marginal coral communities demonstrate remarkable adaptability, largely due to stress-tolerant species.

Selection of suitable reference genes in Paulownia fortunei (Seem.) Hemsl. under different tissues and abiotic stresses for qPCR normalization

open access: yesCzech Journal of Genetics and Plant Breeding, 2023
By choosing appropriate candidate reference genes (CRGs) and standardizing qPCR data, more accurate experimental data can be obtained. Herein, the expression stability of alpha-tubulin1 (TUA1), beta-tubulin (TUB), beta-tubulin 1 (TUB1), beta-tubulin 5 ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Symbiotic Symbiodiniaceae mediate coral-associated bacterial communities along a natural thermal gradient

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiome
The coral-associated microbiome plays a vital role in the holobiont, enabling coral adaptation to diverse environments by modulating its composition and mediating interactions among its constituents.
