On the conservation laws of PDEs

Reports on Mathematical Physics, 1988
The covariance of methods for obtaining conservation laws for nonlinear partial differential equations is studied [the second author, Riv. Nuovo Cim. 5, No.4, 1-122 (1982; see the review above) and \textit{A. M. Vinogradov}, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 100, 41-129 (1985; Zbl 0548.58015)].

On the optimization of a conservation law

Calculus of Variations and Partial Differential Equations, 2004
Consider the Cauchy problem for a conservation law and assume that an integral functional on its solution is defined. In this note we obtain an Euler-Lagrange equation for the stationary points of this functional. An application to the optimal management of traffic flows is considered.

On Stability of Conservation Laws

SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 1999
The authors consider the Cauchy problem for a nonlinear perturbation in conservation form of a linear system that may be parabolic, hyperbolic or mixed. The system also has conservative forcing terms that decay to zero for large time. The issue examined is that of nonlinear stability, for which the solution with zero initial data remains smooth and ...

Hyperbolic Conservation Laws

Oberwolfach Reports, 2005
The conference was organized by Constantine Dafermos (Providence), Dietmar Kröner (Freiburg), Randy LeVeque (Seattle). 44 scientists from 9 countries participated in this workshop. During the conference we had 22 main lectures and on Tuesday and Thursday evening 10 short informal contributions.

On approximation of local conservation laws by nonlocal conservation laws

Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 2019
This manuscript addresses scalar nonlocal conservation laws in one spatial dimension of the form \[ \partial_t q + \partial_x \left( \lambda\left( W_\eta[q] \right) q \right) = 0 \] with initial condition \(q(0,x)=q_0(x)\) for \(x \in \mathbb{R}\). Such equations occur, for instance, in modeling traffic flow, chemical ripening processes, supply chains,

Conservative Social Laws

2012
Social laws – sets of constraints imposed on the behaviour of agents within a multi-agent system with the goal of some desirable overall behaviour resulting – are an important mechanism for coordinating multi-agent behaviour. When considering social laws in human environments, the inspiration for social laws in multiagent systems ...

Conservation laws in superfluorescence

Physical Review A, 1992
Conservation laws for Maxwell-Bloch equations applied to describe superfluorescence are studied. Modifications due to the initial boundary conditions are discussed. For initial polarization in the form of a constant tipping angle, conservation laws are integrated to give exact dependence of all field moments on the propagation length.

Conservation Law in the USSR

Soviet Law and Government, 1968
The extensive development of social production in the USSR, and the associated steadily increasing utilization of diverse natural resources in the economy, compel us to intensify our concern for the protection of nature. In recent years, measures have been developed in our country to assure rational utilization and protection of the land, its mineral ...

Conservation Laws at A Node

2011
This survey paper deals with a system of conservation laws on a network composed by a single node with n incoming and m outgoing arcs. We analyze the Cauchy problem in the case of the Lighthill-Whitham-Richards (LWR) model for traffic and in the case of the p-system. Some open problems are presented.
