An integrated planning approach for the conservation of freshwater ecosystems in South Africa

open access: yes, 2009
Includes bibliographical references (p. 125-140).Freshwater ecosystems underpin the fabric of society and the environment, providing essential ecosystem services such as water and food, upon which all human beings depend.

Integrating social science into conservation planning

open access: yes, 2021
A growing body of literature has highlighted the value of social science for conservation, yet the diverse approaches of the social sciences are still inconsistently incorporated in conservation initiatives.

Immunoinflammatory Mechanisms and Biocompatibility of Bioactive Dental Biomaterials: From Fundamental Insights to Clinical Translation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Surface‐host dialogue at the implant interface governs biological fate and osseointegration. Surface physicochemical properties of titanium (Ti) dental implants, including microgrooves, nanopatterns, nanotopography, roughness, and wettability, modulate the initial adsorption of proteins and the formation of a dynamic biointerface.

One‐Dimensional Materials Supported in Two‐Dimensional Van der Waals Metal–Organic Frameworks with Optical Anisotropy Switching via Twist‐Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a molecular strategy to assemble one‐dimensional (1D) materials into two‐dimensional (2D) van der Waals metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). Crystals of [FeX(pzX)(bpy)] (X = Cl, F) form anisotropic 2D layers that can be mechanically exfoliated into thin sheets.

Wildflower sowings as alternative for conventional inter-row greening in German vineyards

open access: yesBasic and Applied Ecology
Most European vineyards contribute little to biodiversity preservation due to intensive agricultural practices and a low plant species diversity that has low potential to support benefical insects such as pollinators.

Spatial Planning as a Tool for Effective Nature Conservation: A Conceptual Framework for Turkey’s Spatial Planning System

open access: yesJournal of Landscape Ecology, 2018
Protected areas can be parts of larger ecosystems, and land use changes in the unprotected part of the ecosystems may threaten the biological diversity by affecting the ecological processes. The relationship between protected areas and their surroundings

Planners and the conservation of biological heritage: Implications for New Zealand and Australia

open access: yes, 1999
The aim of this paper is to encourage greater attention by planners to conservation of native or indigenous biodiversity, and to the skills and knowledge required for this endeavour.

The nature and role of experiential knowledge for environmental conservation

open access: yes, 2010
Understanding the nature and role of experiential knowledge for environmental conservation is a necessary step towards understanding if it should be used and how it might be applied with other types of knowledge in an evidence-based approach.

Thermally Modulated Metasurface Sensor for Dynamic and Time‐Resolved Isolation of Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A thermally adaptive plasmonic metasurface, functionalized with poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) and anti‐CD63 antibodies, enables precise, on‐demand capture and release of extracellular vesicles (EVs). Delivering high recovery, improved purity, and intact vesicle structure, the platform offers a versatile, label‐free solution for real‐time EV ...
