Identifying Conservation Units in a Species and Prioritizing their Conservation

open access: yesJournal of The Japanese Institute of Landscape Architecture, 2008
Identifying conservation units in a species and prioritizing their conservation were attempted in order to efficient conservation practice. We defined a conservation unit as a distinct populations between which individuals cannot be exchanged because of unique genetic and ecological characteristics. Conservation priority was given to conservation units

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Reducing socio-environmental impacts of wildfire in sustainable-use reserves in Central Amazon

open access: yesBiodiversidade Brasileira, 2019
Sustainable Use Reserves cover 728,270 km2 of the Brazilian Amazon and sustain smallholder communities living in tandem with forest protection. These traditional peoples have used fire for centuries as a central component of their agricultural practices.

Conservation Units and Translocations: Strategies for Conserving Evolutionary Processes

open access: yesHereditas, 2004
The setting of conservation priorities within species requires explicit goals and identification of the appropriate targets for conservation. I suggest that the conservation goal should be to conserve ecological and evolutionary processes; rather than to preserve specific phenotypic variants - the products of those processes.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Species richness, endemism and conservation of Mexican gymnosperms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
An analysis of the distribution patterns of 124 Mexican gymnosperm species was undertaken, in order to detect the Mexican areas with high species richness and endemism, and with this information to propose areas for conservation.

Phylogeography of Ara militaris (Military Macaw): Implications for Conservation

open access: yesDiversity, 2023
The Military Macaw (Ara militaris) is an endangered bird species with disjunct geographic distribution across the Neotropics, consisting of three recognized subspecies: One in Mexico (A. m. mexicanus) and two in South America (A. m. militaris and A.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Molecular and morphological assessment of Australia's most endangered snake, Hoplocephalus bungaroides, reveals two evolutionarily significant units for conservation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The Broad-headed snake Hoplocephalus bungaroides is one of Australia's most endangered vertebrates. Extant populations of H. bungaroides are restricted to several geographically isolated reserves to the north, west, and south of Sydney.

Organizing-with Nature: A Study on the Ecologies of Practices in Brazilian Conservation Units

open access: yesRAC: Revista de Administração Contemporânea
Objective: this article aims to investigate the ways in which organizing-with nature is mobilized within the ecologies of conservation/preservation practices in Brazilian conservation units (CUs).
