Physical therapies for the conservative treatment of the trigger finger: a narrative review

open access: yesOrthopedic Reviews, 2020
Trigger finger (TF) disorder is a sudden release or locking of a finger during flexion or extension. Treatments for this disease are conservative and surgical, including NSAIDs, hand splints, corticosteroid injections, physical therapies and percutaneous

Critical shoulder angle and failure of conservative treatment in patients with atraumatic full thickness rotator cuff tears

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2022
Background Atraumatic full thickness rotator cuff tears (AFTRCT) are common lesions whose incidence increases with age. Physical therapy is an effective conservative treatment in these patients with a reported success rate near 85% within 12 weeks of ...

Multi-Stage Imperative Languages: A Conservative Extension Result

open access: yes, 2000
This paper extends the recent work [CMT00] on the opera-tional semantics and type system for a core language, called MiniMLBN ref BN which exploits the notion of closed type (see also [MTBS99]) to safely combine imperative and multi-stage programming ...

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

RNA Sequencing Resolves Cryptic Pathogenic Variants in Mitochondrial Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Mitochondrial diseases are the most common inherited metabolic disorders, characterized by pronounced clinical and genetic heterogeneity that complicates molecular diagnosis. Although DNA‐based sequencing approaches have become standard in genetic testing, up to half of patients remain without a definitive diagnosis.

Physiosemiosis in the semiotic spiral: A play of musement

open access: yesSign Systems Studies, 2001
A main question for semiotics today is how far does the paradigm for the action of signs, semiosis. extend. There is general agreement by now that semiosis extends at least as far as awareness or cognition occurs, which includes the entire domain of ...

High‐Resolution MRI Revealed Different Etiology‐Specific Associations With Cerebral Infarction in Adult Moyamoya Vasculopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective High‐resolution MRI enables detailed assessment of intracranial vessel wall pathology in moyamoya vasculopathy. We aimed to classify adult moyamoya vasculopathy etiologies using high‐resolution MRI and to examine subtype‐specific associations between high‐resolution MRI features and ischemic infarction.

The Effect of Non-Conservative Compressive Force on the Vibration of Rotating Composite Blades

open access: yesVibration, 2020
This paper investigates the effectiveness of a resonance avoidance concept for composite rotor blades featuring extension–twist elastic coupling. The concept uses a tendon, attached to the tip of the blade, to apply a proper amount of compressive force ...
