Estimation of the Elastic Modulus of Granite Under Uniaxial Compression at the Pre-Peak Stage Using the PROS Method for Approximating Experimental Data

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This study investigates the application of the Pure Random Orthogonal Search (PROS) method, introduced in the literature in 2021, for approximating force and displacement measurement data obtained from rock specimen testing, using granite as a case study.

Determining the concrete stiffness matrix through ultrasonic testing Determinação da matriz de rigidez do concreto utilizando ultrassom

open access: yesEngenharia Agrícola, 2011
The determination of the modulus tangent (Eci ) and of the modulus secant (Ecs) of the concrete can be done using compression test but, to be simpler, it is used relations with characteristic strength (f ck).

Numerical modeling of strain rate hardening effects on viscoplastic behavior of metallic materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The main goal of the present work is to provide a finite strain elasticviscoplastic framework to numerically account for strain, strain rate hardening, and viscous effects in cold deformation of metallic materials. The aim is to provide a simple and robust

Direct Determination of DNA Twist-Stretch Coupling [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The symmetries of the DNA double helix require a new term in its linear response to stress: the coupling between twist and stretch. Recent experiments with torsionally-constrained single molecules give the first direct measurement of this important ...

Dynamic Bonds Enable Repair and Reprocessing of Glycol‐Modified PET

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Dynamic hindered urea bonds enable rapid healing in glycol‐modified PET‐based polyurethanes. Tuning the hindered‐amine content allows these polymers to balance mechanical integrity with fast repair, achieving complete scratch disappearance in 30 s at 130°C.

First-principles study of ground state properties and high pressure behavior of ThO2

open access: yes, 2009
The mechanical properties, electronic structure and phonon dispersion of ground state ThO$_{2}$ as well as the structure behavior up to 240 GPa are studied by using first-principles density-functional theory.

What is the Entanglement Length in a Polymer Melt ? [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We present results of molecular dynamics simulations of very long model polymer chains analyzed by various experimentally relevant techniques. The segment motion of the chains is found to be in very good agreement with the repatation model.

Microenvironmental Reprogramming by 3D Anisotropic Cardiac Extracellular Matrix Induces Nuclear Remodeling and Epigenetic Maturation of Chemically Induced Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D anisotropic hydrogel derived from heart extracellular matrix guides cytoskeletal alignment and nuclear remodeling in reprogrammed cardiomyocyte‐like cells. This study reveals how matrix alignment modulates nuclear envelope dynamics and chromatin state, triggering transcriptional and functional maturation.

Identification of nonlinear kinematic hardening parameters for sheet metal from biaxial loading tests [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this work an anisotropic material model at finite strains with nonlinear mixed (isotropic and kinematic) hardening is used for the identification of the hardening parameters of sheet steel.

Interstitials, Vacancies and Dislocations in Flux-Line Lattices: A Theory of Vortex Crystals, Supersolids and Liquids

open access: yes, 1999
We study a three dimensional Abrikosov vortex lattice in the presence of an equilibrium concentration of vacancy, interstitial and dislocation loops. Vacancies and interstitials renormalize the long-wavelength bulk and tilt elastic moduli.
