Elastoplastic stress analysis of functionally graded disc under internal pressure– complas XII [PDF]
The study deals with elastoplastic stress analysis of a hollow disk made of functionally graded materials (FGMs) subjected to an internal pressure. The material properties of disc are assumed to vary radially according to power law function, but Poisson ...

Softening of DNA near Melting as Disappearance of an Emergent Property
Near the melting transition the bending elastic constant, $\kappa$, an emergent property of double-stranded DNA (dsDNA), is shown not to follow the rod-like scaling for small length $N$.

Continuum Mechanics Modeling of Flexible Spring Joints in Surgical Robots
A new mechanical model of a tendon‐actuated helical extension spring joint in surgical robots is built using Cosserat rod theory. The model can implicitly handle the unknown contacts between adjacent coils and numerically predict spring shapes from straight to significantly bent under actuation forces.

Permanent magnet putty (PMP) integrates high‐coercivity NdFeB particles with a dynamic polyborosiloxane–Ecoflex matrix, achieving rapid self‐healing (90% mechanical recovery in 10 s) and magnetic recovery within 20 min. With twice the sensitivity of commercial putties, PMP enables precise 5–30 N force detection and discrimination between pressing and ...

Study on unified strength theory and elastic–plastic stress update algorithm
The unified strength theory with the two-piecewise linear equations is more convenient and concise to calculate the strength of materials. It can fully explore the potential in the strength of materials and improve the economic benefits of engineering ...

Grip and Grasp: Lizard Claw Inspired Robotic Manipulators
Our study identifies the most effective lizard claw shape for use as an end effector in a bioinspired robotic manipulator. By examining key geometric features and combining them into comparative indices, the Crotaphytus collaris claw is found to be the best fit.

A fully implicit multi-axial solution strategy for direct ratchet boundary evaluation : theoretical development [PDF]
Ensuring sufficient safety against ratchet is a fundamental requirement in pressure vessel design. Determining the ratchet boundary can prove difficult and computationally expensive when using a full elastic-plastic finite element analysis and a number ...
