Observational Derivation of Einstein's``Law of the Constancy of the Velocity of Light in Vacuo"

open access: yes, 2005
On the basis of Galilean invariance and the Doppler formula, combined with an observational condition, it is shown that the constancy of the velocity of light {\it in vacuo} can be derived, together with time-dilatation and Lorentz contraction. It is not

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Effects of Memory Colour on Colour Constancy for Unknown Coloured Objects

open access: yesi-Perception, 2012
The perception of an object's colour remains constant despite large variations in the chromaticity of the illumination—colour constancy. Hering suggested that memory colours, the typical colours of objects, could help in estimating the illuminant's ...

Constancy of distributions: asymptotic efficiency of certain nonparametric tests of constancy [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we study stochastic processes which enable monitoring thepossible changes of probability distributions over time. Theseso-called monitoring processes are bivariate functions of time andposition at the measurement scale, and in particular be

Colour Constancy: Biologically-inspired Contrast Variant Pooling Mechanism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Pooling is a ubiquitous operation in image processing algorithms that allows for higher-level processes to collect relevant low-level features from a region of interest.

Molecular characterisation of human penile carcinoma and generation of paired epithelial primary cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Generation of two normal and tumour (cancerous) paired human cell lines using an established tissue culture technique and their characterisation is described. Cell lines were characterised at cellular, protein, chromosome and gene expression levels and for HPV status.

Evaluating exponential GARCH models [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper, a unified framework for testing the adequancy of an estimated EGARCH model is presented. The tests are Lagrange multiplier or Lagrange multiplier type tests and include testing an EGARCH model against a higher-order one and testing ...

The Perception of Lightness in 3-D Curved Objects [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Lightness constancy requires the visual system to somehow "parse" the input scene into illumination and reflectance components. Experiments on the perception of lightness for 3-D curved objects show that human observers are able to perform such a ...

Beyond object constancy

open access: yesIEE Seminar on Self-Learning Robots II: Bio-Robotics, 1998
The author amplifies a point made by Pfeifer (1998) about the "fundamental problem of learning category distinctions". Object constancy (the capacity to see an object as being of constant size and shape despite variation in retinal position and distance from the observer) is certainly one of the most fundamental category invariants that the brain is ...

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.
