Notch FCI life under constant amplitude uniaxial loads

International Journal of Structural Integrity, 2010
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to estimate the number of cycles for fatigue crack initiation in notched plates.Design/methodology/approachPreviously published experimental results for tests with initially uncracked U‐shaped notches of different sizes and geometries are utilized. The present work defines the fatigue initiation period, Ni, as number

Fatigue crack growth model for constant amplitude loading

Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 2004
ABSTRACTA fatigue crack growth model under constant amplitude loading has been developed considering energy balance during growth of the crack. The plastic energy dissipated during growth of a crack within cyclic plastic zone and area below cyclic stress–strain curve was used in the energy balance.

Total Fatigue Life Prediction under Constant Amplitude Loading

Materials Science Forum, 2011
This paper applies the fracture-mechanics-based analysis and the crack-closure concept to naturally occurring small cracks and large crack growth, and to make total fatigue life predictions solely based on crack growth from the assumed initial materials defect.

Investigation of fatigue crack growth under constant amplitude loading

International Journal of Pressure Vessels and Piping, 1990
Abstract Crack propagation experiments were performed on 6061-T6 Al alloy for various load ranges and stress ratios. Experimental results show that for a constant load range, the life of the specimen decreased as the stress ratio increased. At constant maximum load, the life of the specimen increased as the load ratio increased. The crack growth data

Experimental study of the constant-probability crack growth curves under constant amplitude loading

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1987
Abstract This paper is concerned with the application of a mathematical model that describes the fatigue crack growth evolution and associated scatter in polycrystalline solids. The model has been built on the basis that an analogy exists between a particular discontinuous Markovian stochastic process, namely the general pure birth process, and the ...

Growth of surface cracks under constant and variable amplitude loading

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2004
Fatigue crack growth experiments were performed on surface cracked tensile specimens of Inconel 718 at 400 °C. The loading was carried out at constant as well as at variable amplitude. The experimental results for the mean growth rate were compared with predictions based on data obtained from testing of compact tension specimens.

Probabilistic Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior under Constant Amplitude Loads

Transactions of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers A, 2003
In this paper, an analysis of fatigue crack growth behavior from a statistical point of view has been carried out. Fatigue crack growth tests were conducted on sixteen pre-cracked compact tension (CT) specimens of the pressure vessel (SPV50) steel in controlled identical load and environmental conditions.

Fatigue Crack Closure Evaluation Under Constant Amplitude and Spectrum Loading

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 2003
Abstract Fatigue crack growth behavior of through-the-thickness cracks emanating from the notch root in an aluminum alloy was investigated with particular emphasis on the evaluation of crack closure and its effects on fatigue crack growth rate.

FATIGUE DAMAGE IN 1045 STEEL UNDER CONSTANT AMPLITUDE BIAXIAL LOADING

Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 1984
The progressive nature of fatigue damage under multiaxial stress states has been investigated. Experiments were performed on thin‐wall tubular specimens of 1045 steel in tension, torsion and combined tension‐torsion loading. Two equivalent strain amplitudes, one in the high cycle fatigue (HCF) region and one in low cycle fatigue (LCF) region were ...

Cumulative Damage Under Constant Amplitude and Variable Amplitude Loading: Some New Physical Aspects

1987
From systematic investigations of typical stages of metallic materials, subjected to different types of loading histories, a strong correlation between the cyclic deformation processes, characteristic changes of temperature and the microstructural mechanisms could be identified.
