Decoupling the magnitude and phase in a constant phase element

Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry, 2021
Abstract The success of fractional-order fractance (FOF) as a modeling tool in (photo)bio(electro)chemical systems can be readily gauged by the large body of research work that has been conducted over the past few years in terms of materials fabrication, building integer-order emulators of their behavior, as well as applications in filter design ...

The Origin of the Constant Phase Element

The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters, 2022
The constant phase element (CPE) is usually observed at solid electrodes. It is a source of controversies and misunderstandings. In this Viewpoint, theory, properties, experimental results, and the origin of the CPE are presented and discussed.

Nonlinear charge-voltage relationship in constant phase element

AEU - International Journal of Electronics and Communications, 2020
Abstract The constant phase element (CPE) or fractional-order capacitor is an electrical device that has an impedance of the form Z ( s ) = 1 / C α s α , where C α is the CPE parameter and α is a fractional dispersion coefficient of values between 0 and 1.

On Interpretation of Constant-Phase Elements

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2016
Electrical circuits invoking constant-phase elements (CPE) are often used to fit impedance data arising from a broad range of experimental systems. The CPE is often used simply as a way to improve the fit of a model to impedance data, justified by a vague assertion that a distribution of time constants is present in the system under investigation.

RC models of a constant phase element

International Journal of Circuit Theory and Applications, 2011
SUMMARYThe paper describes models of a constant‐phase element consisting of passive R and C components. The models offer any input impedance argument (phase) between −90° and 0° over a selectable frequency band covering several decades. The design procedure makes it possible to choose values of average phase, phase ripple, frequency bandwidth, and ...

Designing constant phase elements of complement order

Analog Integrated Circuits and Signal Processing, 2018
Once designing analogue fractional-order function blocks, the capacitive and/or inductive fractional-order elements (FOEs), also referred to as constant phase elements, being defined with their fractional order $$\alpha$$

Constant-Phase-Element Behavior Caused by Resistivity Distributions in Films

Journal of The Electrochemical Society, 2010
CPE behavior may be attributed to the distribution of physical properties in films, in the direction normal to the electrode surface. Numerical simulations were used to show that, under assumption that the dielectric constant is independent of position, a normal power-law distribution of local resistivity is consistent with the Constant-Phase Element ...
