Constant Volume and Constant Pressure Respirometry

2008
This chapter describes constant pressure (Gilson) and constant volume (Warburg) respirometry—long-established techniques that are still capable of accurate results. These are useful for measuring the metabolic rates of small organisms, cell cultures, and biochemical preparations.

Volume dependence of gruneisen constant

Solid State Communications, 1974
Abstract An expression is derived for a new isothermal parameter λ = v γ ( ∂γ ∂v) T which gives the volume dependence of Gruneisen constant of cubic crystals and its value is calculated in the case of NaCl, KCl, Cu, Ag, Al and Au. It is shown that the λ parameter modifies the thermal contribution to the isothermal compressibility of ...

Temperature dependent resistivity in Rb3C60: constant volume versus constant pressure

Physica C: Superconductivity, 1994
Abstract Under conditions of constant sample volume the normal state resistivity of ϱ of Rb3C60 has a temperature dependence ϱ ≈ T, in sharp contrast to ϱ ≈ T2 observed under condtionns of constant sample pressure. Implications for the normal-state scattering mechanism are discussed.

Van der Waals volume fragmental constants

Chemical Physics Letters, 1985
Abstract Van der Waals (vdW) volumes ( V w,x ) of 117 molecular fragments ( X ) have been calculated by numerical integration of the van der Waals envelope using the hard-sphere approximation, standard geometries, and effective atomic van der Waals radii which were determined by comparison of their effects on the predicted sterically allowed ...

Viscous Flow of Liquids at Constant Volume and Constant Pressure

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1958
The energy of activation for viscous flow at constant volume, Ev, is dependent on the volume of a liquid. For normal liquids at elevated temperatures, Ev is only a small fraction of the value of the activation energy at constant pressure, Ep. However, for associated liquids, on account of the presence of hydrogen bonds, Ev is almost equivalent to Ep ...

Viscosities of liquids at constant volume

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1951
The design and construction of a falling-cylinder viscometer for use at pressures up to 3000 atm. are described. The instrument has been employed for the first direct measurement of the variation of the viscosity of a liquid with temperature at a constant volume which is determined by the density of the liquid at the temperature at which ...

Compensator for constant-volume gas burettes

Journal of Scientific Instruments, 1931
The constant-volume gas analysis apparatus, described in Analyst, 54 1929 (517), has been fitted with a compensator for variations in temperature and barometric pressure. The device is found to save time and increase accuracy, and is adaptable to other instruments, both of the constant-volume and constant-pressure types.
