Dynamic coronal plane knee alignment: Femoral anatomy determines kinematic curve morphology, tibial anatomy determines curve position

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose A single hip–knee–ankle angle (HKA) angle does not reflect the biomechanics of native, arthritic or prosthetic knees. Since HKA varies throughout flexion, dynamic coronal alignment is best represented by a kinematic curve plotting HKA against the range of motion.

Bringing Rights Back Home? How Judges Handle Multilayered Constitutional and International Human Rights Laws on the Supreme Court of Norway

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Empirical Legal Studies
Given that fundamental rights are protected by both constitutional and international human rights law, how do judges handle the resulting complexity? Despite scholarly debate about the multilayered, overlapping codification of fundamental rights, few ...

Managing the meniscus Part 2: Traumatic tear patterns, biologic augmentation, transplantation, innovation and future research

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Acute, traumatic meniscus tears are common and should be repaired whenever possible. However, the biological age of the patient, along with the specific tear morphology, may significantly influence the selection of the repair technique, expected clinical outcomes and the postoperative rehabilitation protocol.

Out of Bounds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Lawrence v. Texas creates a crisis for inclusive constitutionalism. Too often, advocates of inclusion and tolerance wish to include only those ideas and groups with which they agree.

Superior patient‐reported clinical outcomes after patient‐individual total knee arthroplasty compared with off‐the‐shelf robotic‐assisted total knee arthroplasty in valgus knee phenotypes

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To compare early patient‐reported clinical outcomes of patient‐individual total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with individualized trochlear design versus robotic‐assisted TKA using off‐the‐shelf implants in patients with valgus knee phenotypes and pronounced femoral valgus (lateral distal femoral angle [LDFA] < 85°) at 3 and 12 months ...

Mechanical axis correction after total knee arthroplasty alters ankle alignment but does not affect ankle function

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) restores knee function, but correction of coronal plane deformities may alter the biomechanics of adjacent joints. This study aimed to determine whether changes in knee alignment after TKA have clinical or radiological effects on the ankle.

The Perilous Dialogue [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The master metaphor in the national security dialogue is, indeed, “security or freedom”. It dominates the counterterrorist discourse both in the United States and abroad.

Greater Cochlear Damage in Otogenic Versus Meningogenic Meningitis: Hearing Rehabilitation Implications

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Otogenic route of meningitis was associated with greater cochlear hair cell loss in comparison with the meningogenic one in this otopathology study. Neuronal depletion has been traditionally implicated in failed hearing rehabilitation of post‐meningitis deafness.
