An evaluation of maize contract farming system in Sri Lanka: adoption, problems and future prospects

open access: yesTropical Agricultural Research, 2015
The constraints that hinder the growth of smallholder farmers have been attributed to lack of access to markets and technical expertise. Contract farming envisaged to facilitate the linkage between smallholder farmers and agribusiness firms who have ...

The Swine IFN System in Viral Infections: Major Advances and Translational Prospects

open access: yesPathogens, 2022
Interferons (IFNs) are a family of cytokines that play a pivotal role in orchestrating the innate immune response during viral infections, thus representing the first line of defense in the host. After binding to their respective receptors, they are able

Cis‐ and Trans‐Regulatory Factors Independently Shape Phenotypic Heterogeneity of Retinitis Pigmentosa

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A zebrafish model carrying an identical human RHO S334X allele reveals two independent genetic layers shaping retinitis pigmentosa (RP) severity: a protective 3‐bp cis‐regulatory insertion that attenuates transgene expression, and a dominant trans‐acting modifier that restores a severe phenotype.

Characterising family farms and their constraints and agroecological intensification options: a case study from the Sahelian zone, Niger

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Food, Agriculture, Nutrition and Development
ABSTRACT Family farms play an important role in food security and nutrition in West Africa. Family farms are rapidly changing and face many constraints. Thus, characterizing them is necessary for policy purposes. This study aimed to characterise family farms in Niger, focusing on the current constraints to family farms and existing agroecological ...

Comparative Oligo‐FISH Mapping Illuminates Chromosomal Evolution Among Rutaceae Species Diverged Over 50 Million Years

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Oligonucleotide‐based fluorescence in situ hybridization probes were developed in the model citrus species Citrus maxima. These probes were applied to comparative karyotyping across 14 species in the Rutaceae family. This analysis revealed chromosomal evolution in lineages that diverged from Citrus nearly 52 million years ago.
