Overview of molecular signatures of senescence and associated resources: pros and cons

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cells can enter a stress response state termed cellular senescence that is involved in various diseases and aging. Detecting these cells is challenging due to the lack of universal biomarkers. This review presents the current state of senescence identification, from biomarkers to molecular signatures, compares tools and approaches, and highlights ...

Comprehensive Analysis and Urethroscopic Evaluation of “U” Shaped Prostatobulbar Anastomotic Urethroplasty

open access: yesAsian Journal of Surgery, 2009
To evaluate efficacy of “U” shaped prostatobulbar anastamosis [USPBA] in a posterior urethral stricture along with its urethroscopic evaluation to let us assess the process of neourethrisation in successful cases as well as pathogenesis of restricture in

Single exposure 3D imaging of dusty plasma clusters

open access: yes, 2012
We have worked out the details of a single camera, single exposure method to perform three-dimensional imaging of a finite particle cluster. The procedure is based on the plenoptic imaging principle and utilizes a commercial Lytro light field still ...

A Polymerization-Associated Structural Switch in FtsZ That Enables Treadmilling of Model Filaments

open access: yesmBio, 2017
Bacterial cell division in many organisms involves a constricting cytokinetic ring that is orchestrated by the tubulin-like protein FtsZ. FtsZ forms dynamic filaments close to the membrane at the site of division that have recently been shown to ...

3D-SIM Super Resolution Microscopy Reveals a Bead-Like Arrangement for FtsZ and the Division Machinery: Implications for Triggering Cytokinesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
FtsZ is a tubulin-like GTPase that is the major cytoskeletal protein in bacterial cell division. It polymerizes into a ring, called the Z ring, at the division site and acts as a scaffold to recruit other division proteins to this site as well as ...

Pathogenic Neurofibromatosis type 1 gene variants in tumors of non‐NF1 patients and role of R1276

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Somatic variants of the neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) gene occur across neoplasms without clinical manifestation of the disease NF1. We identified emerging somatic pathogenic NF1 variants and hotspots, for example, at the arginine finger 1276. Those missense variants provide fundamental information about neurofibromin's role in cancer.

The Eye Pupil’s Response to Static and Dynamic Illusions of Luminosity and Darkness

open access: yesi-Perception, 2017
Pupil diameters were recorded with an eye-tracker while participants observed cruciform patterns of gray-scale gradients that evoked illusions of enhanced brightness ( glare ) or of enhanced darkness.

Phosphoinositide-mediated ring anchoring resists perpendicular forces to promote medial cytokinesis

open access: yesJournal of Cell Biology, 2017
Many eukaryotic cells divide by assembling and constricting an actin- and myosin-based contractile ring (CR) that is physically linked to the plasma membrane (PM).
