CHRONIC CONSTRICTIVE PERICARDITIS
Journal of the American Medical Association, 1938Chronic constrictive pericarditis is a term applied to the condition which results when fibrous thickening of the pericardium interferes mechanically with the normal movements of the heart and blood. Nineteen patients with an undoubted diagnosis of constrictive pericarditis have been observed by us in the Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville and

Chronic constrictive pericarditis: Further consideration of the pathologic physiology of the disease
American Heart Journal, 1952Abstract 1. 1. The methods of catheterization of the heart and the pulmonary vessels make it practical, for the first time, to investigate the pressure and flow phenomena in the right side of the heart and in the pulmonary vascular system of patients with constrictive pericarditis. Six such patients have been studied by these methods. 2.

We performed endomyocardial biopsy in six patients with constrictive pericarditis, revealing the presence of myocarditis and myocardial interstitial fibrosis in all regardless of the endocardial thickening. These findings suggest that the presence of endomyocardial involvement in the setting of restrictive heart disease should not be deemed specific ...

Clinics in Chest Medicine, 1993
This article reviews the histopathological findings in a variety of inflammatory bronchiolar diseases. The emphasis is on differentiating syndromes of idiopathic airflow limitation (constrictive bronchiolitis and diffuse panbronchiolitis) from cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (idiopathic bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia).

Pain, 1998
Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF) may be involved in the pathogenic mechanisms of neuropathic pain by affecting endothelial cells and by upregulation of receptor sensitivity in afferent nerve fibers. To test the hypothesis that TNF plays a role in the vascular changes and the pain-related behavior in an experimental painful neuropathy in rats produced ...

Morphodynamics and pathology of blood vessels II. Morphodynamic study of constriction of umbilical blood vessels and its application to coronary artery disease [PDF]
The morphodynamic changes of the umbilical artery from full distension to total occlusion within 45 seconds of delivery is very striking. On gross examination, the constricted artery shows a small, round, outer contour and reduced external diameter.

Abstract The pressure tracings obtained by right-heart catheterization are described in ten patients with constrictive pericarditis and three patients with acute pericardial effusion. The left-atrial and ventricular-pressure tracing of one of these is shown.

An experimental painful peripheral neuropathy due to nerve constriction
Experimental Neurology, 1992A constriction injury to the sciatic nerve of the rat produces a painful peripheral neuropathy that is similar to the conditions seen in man. The pathology of the sciatic nerve in these animals was examined at 10 days postinjury, when the abnormal pain sensations are near maximal severity.

Constrictive pericarditis is the commonest cardiac complication of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Two percent of patients with RA develop significant clinical symptoms of pericarditis, which may not correlate with joint disease duration or severity. Symptoms are often vague and non-specific, which frequently delays the diagnosis and subsequent management ...
