Pathologic physiology and diagnostic significance of the pressure pulse tracings in the heart in patients with constrictive pericarditis and pericardial effusion

American Heart Journal, 1954
Abstract The pressure tracings obtained by right-heart catheterization are described in ten patients with constrictive pericarditis and three patients with acute pericardial effusion. The left-atrial and ventricular-pressure tracing of one of these is shown.

A Clinico-pathological Conference on Constrictive Pericarditis Secondary to Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Case Report with Expert Commentary and Review of the Literature

Heart, Lung and Circulation, 2011
Constrictive pericarditis is the commonest cardiac complication of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Two percent of patients with RA develop significant clinical symptoms of pericarditis, which may not correlate with joint disease duration or severity. Symptoms are often vague and non-specific, which frequently delays the diagnosis and subsequent management ...

Effect of sodium channel blocker (mexiletine) on pathological ectopic firing pattern in a rat chronic constriction nerve injury model

Journal of Orthopaedic Science, 2005
We studied the efficacy of mexiletine as a sodium channel blocker for neuropathic pain by investigating the effect of mexiletine on the pathological ectopic firing pattern in a chronic constriction nerve injury (CCI) model. The experiment was conducted with 60 male Wistar rats. The CCI model was created by loosely ligating the sciatic nerve.

Abstract 60: Cardiac-specific Deletion of HuR Reduces Pathological Hypertrophy and Ventricular Remodeling Following Transverse Aortic Constriction

Circulation Research, 2015
The RNA binding protein HuR (Human antigen R) interacts with specific AU-rich domains in target mRNAs and is highly expressed in many cell types, including cardiomyocytes. However, the role of HuR in cardiac physiology is largely unknown. Our results show that HuR undergoes cytoplasmic translocation, indicative of its activation, in hypertrophic mouse ...

Morphodynamics and pathology of blood vessels II. Morphodynamic study of constriction of umbilical blood vessels and its application to coronary artery disease

International Journal of Angiology, 1996
The morphodynamic changes of the umbilical artery from full distension to total occlusion within 45 seconds of delivery is very striking. On gross examination, the constricted artery shows a small, round, outer contour and reduced external diameter.

Quantifying the Effects of a Constricted Temporal Window in Reinforcer Pathology

2019
Health behaviors, positive and negative, can support or reduce risk for multiple chronic diseases, such as substance use disorder and obesity. These diseases are marked by overconsuming commodities that offer predictable short-term benefits, and neglecting other behaviors with variable long-term benefits (e.g., fast food is enjoyable in the moment ...

An experimental painful peripheral neuropathy due to nerve constriction. I. Axonal pathology in the sciatic nerve.

Experimental neurology, 1992
A constriction injury to the sciatic nerve of the rat produces a painful peripheral neuropathy that is similar to the conditions seen in man. The pathology of the sciatic nerve in these animals was examined at 10 days postinjury, when the abnormal pain sensations are near maximal severity.
