Density of States and Binding Energy Informatics for Exploring Early Disease Detection in MOF‐Metal Oxide Chemiresistive Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Theory and Simulations, EarlyView.
Binding energy and electronic structure calculations are used to assess the ability of metal–organic framework (MOF)‐TiO2 composite materials to detect volatile organic compounds found in human breath. Electronic structure changes are measured by comparing density of states profiles using Wasserstein distances.

Machine Learning Techniques for Simulating Human Psychophysical Testing of Low‐Resolution Phosphene Face Images in Artificial Vision

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
To evaluate the quality of artificial visual percepts generated by emerging methodologies, researchers often rely on labor‐intensive and tedious human psychophysical experiments. The present work investigates the capacity of standard machine learning models to accurately replicate quaternary match‐to‐sample tasks using low‐resolution facial images ...

Sensory Encoding Alternates With Hippocampal Ripples across Cycles of Forebrain Spiking Cascades

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals widespread, coordinated brain activity during passive visual stimulation in mice. Sensory coding, phase‐locked with the periodic dynamics, shows an inverse relationship to hippocampal ripples. The results suggest that periodic brain activity spurs alteration between two distinct operational modes of brain, facilitating exteroceptive ...

Self‐Assembly Engineering of Fullerene‐Like Polyhedra: V60, V66, V72 From {MV5} Pentagonal Second Building Block

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A precise self‐assembly of fullerene‐like V60‐MOP constructed from the first discovered polyoxovanadates five‐membered ring V5 units is discovered. In situ modifications are successfully used to insert {MO5} (M = V/Mo) in the center of the V5 ring, resulting in three other isomorphic spherical cages V66‐MOP, V72‐MOP, and V60Mo12‐MOP.
