A construction is described assigning a pure grammar G_{mrn} to any language and to any integers 0≤m≤r≤n. This construction has the following property: If the sequence (G_{mrn})_{n≥r} has a limit G_{mr} for any r≥m and if the sequence (G_{mr})_{r≥m} has a limit, then the given language is generated by a pure grammar.

The current article presents a case for a constructionist turn in pedagogical grammar. To that end, the framework termed Applied CognitiveConstruction Grammars (ACCxG) is introduced as a means to arrive at a systematic characterization of linguistic ...

This chapter focuses on Embodied Construction Grammar (ECG), another computational implementation of Construction Grammar. It points out that the driving question of this framework is how language is used in actual physical and social contexts, and explains that ECG is an attempt to computationally model the cognitive and neural mechanisms that ...

Creativity and Construction Grammar: Cognitive and Psychological Issues
Zeitschrift für Anglistik and Amerikanistik, 2018Creativity is an important evolutionary adaptation that allows humans to think original thoughts, to find solutions to problems that have never been encountered before and, potentially, to fundamentally change the way we live.

Basics of Fluid Construction Grammar
Benjamins Current Topics, 2017Fluid Construction Grammar (FCG) is a fully operational computational platform for developing grammars from a constructional perspective. It contains mechanisms for representing grammars and for using them in computational experiments and applications in

This fourth chapter offers an overview of the basic tenets of Construction Grammar(s), which postulates that the basic unit of grammar is the construction, a free-standing theoretical assembly of one form and one meaning or function. Constructions are assumed to be stored as symbolic units alongside lexical items. Phonological, morphological, syntactic

This chapter examines the types of data used in constructionist approaches and the parameters along which data types can be classified. It discusses different kinds of quantitative observational/corpus data (frequencies, probabilities, association measures) and their statistical analysis.

This chapter discusses the Berkeley Construction Grammar (BCG), the framework through which grammatical phenomena of English were organized and described in that class. It explains the basic concepts of feature structures and unification, and introduces the valence requirements of predicating words and the devices for their satisfaction.

This chapter focuses on Fluid Construction Grammar (FCG), a formalism that allows Construction Grammar researchers to formulate their findings in a precise manner and to test the implications of their theories for language parsing, production, and learning.

Morphology in Construction Grammar
2013This chapter presents a whole range of arguments for a Construction Grammar approach to morphology. It shows that the lexicon contains both (simplex and complex) words and word formation schemas of various degrees of abstraction, and provides evidence supporting the view that morphological construcitons have holistic properties.
