Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

What must be done to prevent another humidifier disinfectant disaster? [PDF]

open access: yesEnvironmental Health and Toxicology, 2016
The humidifier disinfectant disaster (HDD) was not a simple poisoning accident by biocides, but a singular disaster in history created by chemicals in household products.

Handbook of Establishing and Maintaining Oxygen‐Free Atmospheres

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a practical framework for creating oxygen‐free atmospheres at ambient pressure using silane‐doped inert gases. The results show that ultra‐low oxygen levels and strongly reduced water content can be achieved through controlled silane dosing, drying systems, and sensor monitoring.

Oxide‐Free Titanium Coatings by Wire Arc Spraying in a Silane‐Doped Inert Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A silane‐doped argon atmosphere enables the production of oxide‐free titanium coatings via twin‐wire arc spraying at ambient pressure. This innovative approach eliminates residual oxygen, creating process conditions that prevent oxidation and nitride formation.

Modelling the spatial distribution of the nuisance mosquito species Anopheles plumbeus (Diptera: Culicidae) in the Netherlands

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2015
Background Landscape modifications, urbanization or changes of use of rural-agricultural areas can create more favourable conditions for certain mosquito species and therefore indirectly cause nuisance problems for humans.

Product-Consumer Substitution and Safety Regulation [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2017
We develop a theory of safety regulation where product safety and consumer skills are negatively correlated. Demand and supply drive this correlation. Given the option to choose any product, low skill consumers choose safer products. Given the option of selling to any consumer, producers chose to sell riskier products to high skill consumers.

Multifunctional Crushing and Piezoresistive Self‐Sensing in Conductive Epoxy/CNT‐Coated Polyetherimide TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports lightweight polyetherimide triply periodic minimal surfaces lattices coated with carbon nanotube‐reinforced epoxy that combine mechanical robustness with self‐sensing. The conformal coating enhances stiffness, strength and energy absorption while enabling reliable strain monitoring.

Multilayered hollow transition metal nitride spheres made from single-source precursors for SERS analytics

open access: yesNature Communications
Traditional high-temperature and high-pressure synthesis routes make transition metal nitride (TMN) grains prone to sintering and agglomeration, thus synthesis of architectures with high specific surface area and pore volume is an urgent problem to be ...

Conformal LATP surface engineering for Ni-rich cathodes: enhancing interfacial stability and thermal safety in lithium-ion batteries

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry
Enhancing the interfacial stability and thermal safety of Ni-rich layered oxide cathodes remains a critical challenge for the development of high-energy lithium-ion batteries.
