A Novel Mastadenovirus from Nyctalus noctula Which Represents a Distinct Evolutionary Branch of Viruses from Bats in Europe

open access: yesViruses
Bats are natural hosts of a wide variety of viruses, including adenoviruses. European bats are known to carry mastadenoviruses categorized as species B (widespread in European Vespertilionidae bats) and whose taxonomy has not been clarified.

Quantitative proteomic analysis reveals different characteristics of bladder cancer cells after exposure to bisphenol A

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bisphenol A (BPA), a common chemical in plastics, exerts dual effects on bladder cancer cells: low doses promote growth and migration, while high doses suppress growth and migration. Multi‐omics and bioinformatics reveal BPA acts via MAPK and inflammatory pathways.

Digital twins to accelerate target identification and drug development for immune‐mediated disorders

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Digital twins integrate patient‐derived molecular and clinical data into personalised computational models that simulate disease mechanisms. They enable rapid identification and validation of therapeutic targets, prediction of drug responses, and prioritisation of candidate interventions.

Confused Consumers?

open access: yes, 2008
Jens Beckert and Jörg Rössel explore the question of how the prices of artworks are established. In their opinion, the classical deduction that arises by analyzing the market is insufficient. In contrast to other goods, pricing for artworks cannot be determined by rules based on production cost or other objective factors.

The role of computer mediated environment and simulations in mediating consumers' personal and domestic life-worlds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This thesis examines the impacts of consumption of simulations. Using ethnographic methods, it explores how Irish consumers are using simulated products in lieu of the real and tangible, and how consumption of these simulations impact on their lifeworlds.

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Exclusive dealing with network effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper explores the ability of an incumbent to use exclusive deals or introductory offers to dominate a market in the face of entry when network effects rather than scale economies are present.

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

Enzymatic and microbial routes to bioplastics: The green chemistry frontier of biopolymers

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Microbial biosynthesis and engineered enzyme platforms are expanding the design space of polyhydroxyalkanoate bioplastics. By combining fermentation, PHA synthase engineering and cell‐free modular systems, tailored biodegradable polymers can be produced with tunable properties, supporting more sustainable materials and future circular bioeconomy ...
