Multiplicity of Contact Binary Stars

2007
We present results of a preliminary investigation of triple star incidence for contact binary stars. The goal is to shed light on the possible role of distant companions which may have acquired and/or absorbed AM during evolution of multiple systems facilitating or enabling formation of contact binaries.

The contact binary HD 101799.

Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 1976
The observations of Sistero and Sistero are reanalyzed. HD 101799 is found to be a contact system instead of semidetached as reported previously. New absolute dimensions for the components are derived. The secondary (less massive component) is found to be cooler and larger than believed earlier. Based on the size of the radius of the primary the binary

Activity of Contact Binary Systems

1985
This review will consider various indicators of activity in contact binaries. We shall limit ourselves to late-type contact systems which are traditionally called the “W UMa-type” systems. This limitation results mainly from a better knowledge of properties of cooler systems (i.e.

FS Lupi: a contact binary in poor thermal contact

1987
The UBV photoelectric lightcurves of the eclipsing binary FS Lupi, observed at ESO, La Silla, during 1982-1984, have been analyzed with a Roche-model-based lightcurve synthesis method. The system, alternatively classified in the past as an EA or EB system, results an A-type contact binary with a relatively large degree of overcontact (33%) and with a ...
