A Model for Contact Binary Systems

Chinese Journal of Astronomy and Astrophysics, 2007
A model for contact binary systems is presented, which incorporates the following special features: a) The energy exchange between the components is based on the understanding that the energy exchange is due to the release of potential, kinetic and thermal energies of the exchanged mass.

Multiplicity of Contact Binary Stars

2007
We present results of a preliminary investigation of triple star incidence for contact binary stars. The goal is to shed light on the possible role of distant companions which may have acquired and/or absorbed AM during evolution of multiple systems facilitating or enabling formation of contact binaries.

Evolutionary stage of contact binaries

Chinese Astronomy and Astrophysics, 1988
A new method of estimating the evolutionary stage reached by a contact binary from its observations is proposed. Application to 38 systems shows that all systems of subtype A and some systems of subtype W are evolved systems, from systems which may or may not be contact systems at the zero-age main-sequence stage.

The contact binary HD 101799.

Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 1976
The observations of Sistero and Sistero are reanalyzed. HD 101799 is found to be a contact system instead of semidetached as reported previously. New absolute dimensions for the components are derived. The secondary (less massive component) is found to be cooler and larger than believed earlier. Based on the size of the radius of the primary the binary

Activity of Contact Binary Systems

1985
This review will consider various indicators of activity in contact binaries. We shall limit ourselves to late-type contact systems which are traditionally called the “W UMa-type” systems. This limitation results mainly from a better knowledge of properties of cooler systems (i.e.

On the Solutions for Contact Binary Systems

1987
Although the pioneering paper of Lucy (1968) appeared already 18 years ago, the theory of contact binaries is by far not yet in a satisfactory state. This concerns in particular an aspect with which I will not deal here at all, namely the inability to reproduce theoretically the observed systems (light curves, period-colour relation).

An investigation of contact and non-contact binary systems

1986
Spectroscopic and photometric observations of six late-type contact and near-contact binaries are presented, and the results of the analyses discussed. Absolute dimensions have been deduced for three systems: YY Ceti. CX Aquarii and RV Corvi. YY Ceti, which has an orbital period of 0.79 days, is found to be composed of a normal main-sequence star of ...
