Not All Dry Eye in Contact Lens Wear Is Contact Lens–Induced

open access: yesEye & Contact Lens: Science & Clinical Practice, 2020
Objectives: To compare subjective and clinical outcomes in three study groups: (1) asymptomatic contact lens (CL) wearers (ASYM); (2) symptomatic CL wearers who become asymptomatic on lens removal; and (3) symptomatic CL wearers who do not resolve on lens removal.

Bioinspired Shape Reconfigurable, Printable, and Conductive “E‐Skin” Patch with Robust Antibacterial Properties for Human Health Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this article, Hojin Kim, Sayan Deb Dutta, and co‐workers report a shape‐reconfigurable, 3D printable, and highly adhesive slime‐like ‘electronic skin’ or ‘E‐skin’ patch for human health sensing and tissue engineering applications. The dual reinforcement of hydrogel patch with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) improve the ...

How Could Contact Lens Wearers Be at Risk of Acanthamoeba Infection? A Review

open access: yesJournal of Optometry, 2009
Contact lens wear is highly influential on the incidence of ulcerative keratitis worldwide, particularly in developed countries. The association between Acanthamoeba keratitis and contact lens wear is firmly established; it may account for up to 95% of ...

Native Lignin Migration and Clustering in Wood: Superhydrophobic, Antimold, and Tribonegative Layers for Rain‐Driven Electrification

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes a sustainable solution for rainwater‐driven energy harvesting by harnessing the intrinsic properties of lignin in wood. The first demonstration of an all‐wood tribonegative material for liquid–solid triboelectric nanogenerators is presented, eliminating the need for fluorine‐containing polymers and functional additives. Abstract The

Supramolecular Zwitterionic Hydrogels for Information Encryption, Soft Electronics and Energy Storage at Icy Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A series of ACHPES‐based hydrogels are developed and realizing multiple functions like anti‐fouling properties, alkali‐induced color/fluorescence‐changing ability and strain sensing. Furthermore, the hydrogels show excellent anti‐freezing performance, whose optical, mechanical and electrical properties remain stable at −47.3 °C.

Harnessing Interfacial Cl− Ions for Concurrent Formate Production at Industrial Level via CO2 Reduction and Methanol Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The replacement of the anodic OER in CO2RR with energy‐saving methanol oxidation reaction and the creation of a favorable microenvironment through interfacial Cl− ions enable concurrent formate production at industrial‐level current densities. Abstract The efficient electrocatalytic conversion of CO2 to formate is often impeded by the high energy ...

Stein fillings of planar open books [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We prove that if a contact manifold $(M,\xi)$ is supported by a planar open book, then Euler characteristic and signature of any Stein filling of $(M,\xi)$ is bounded.

Influence of frozen capillary waves on contact mechanics

open access: yes, 2005
Free surfaces of liquids exhibit thermally excited (capillary) surface waves. We show that the surface roughness which results from capillary waves when a glassy material is cooled below the glass transition temperature can have a large influence on the ...
