Substrate Engineering for Durable Omniphobic Liquid‐Like Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The significant yet less investigated role of substrates in determining the liquid‐repellency and mechanical durability of liquid‐like surfaces (LLSs) is explored. Thick and crack‐free sol–gel silica intermediary layers are developed that can smoothen substrate asperity roughness even at the micron scale, enabling omniphobic polydimethylsiloxane‐based ...

Risk Behaviors for Contact Lens–Related Eye Infections Among Adults and Adolescents — United States, 2016

open access: yesMMWR. Morbidity and mortality weekly report, 2017
Contact lens-related eye infections, which can lead to serious outcomes, including blindness, are associated with several risk factors, including sleeping in lenses, exposing lenses to water, not adhering to replacement schedules, and reusing ...

Adhesive contact of model randomly rough rubber surfaces

open access: yes, 2019
We study experimentally and theoretically the equilibrium adhesive contact between a smooth glass lens and a rough rubber surface textured with spherical microasperities with controlled height and spatial distributions.

Optical Whispering‐Gallery Mode as a Fingerprint of Magnetic Ordering in Van der Waals Layered CrSBr

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel nanoscale optomagnetic sensing approach is developed using whispering‐gallery mode resonances in a self‐rolled‐up microcavity. This method enables ultra‐sensitive detection of weak magnetism by correlating resonance shifts with magnetic susceptibility.

Development of a contact lens quality monitoring system [PDF]

open access: yes
The quality of contact lens samples depends strongly on their free volume fractions. It is expected that the free volume fraction of the test samples will also impact their attenuation coefficients for soft x rays.

Wedge immersed thermistor bolometer measures infrared radiation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1965
Wedge immersed-thermistor bolometer measures infrared radiation in the atmosphere. The thermistor flakes are immersed by optical contact on a wedge-shaped germanium lens whose narrow dimension is clamped between two complementary wedge-shaped germanium ...

Ultrahigh‐resolution (λ/10) Femtosecond Laser Writing of Polymer‐Encapsulated Multicolor Perovskite Patterns Beyond the Diffraction Limit

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fabrication of in situ polymer‐encapsulated stable perovskite patterns of arbitrary shapes and pixel arrays with a resolution of 80 nm is reported by the femtosecond (fs) laser (800 nm) super‐resolution writing technique. The two‐photon absorption‐induced laser ablation is attributed to the achieved feature sizes as small as λ/10.

Blue light stimulation of the blind spot in human: from melanopsin to clinically relevant biomarkers of myopia

open access: yesBioelectronic Medicine
The protective effects of time spent outdoors emphasize the major role of daylight in myopia. Based on the pathophysiology of myopia, the impact of blue light stimulation on the signaling cascade, from melanopsin at the blind spot to clinically relevant ...

The Influence of Annealing on the Sb Layer in the Synthesis of [001]‐Oriented Sb2Se3 Film for Photoelectrochemical Hydrogen Gas Generation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
[001]‐oriented Sb2Se3 film with improved crystallinity and adjusted composition is achieved via a new thermal treatment approach consisting of preliminary annealing of the Sb layer before its selenization. The findings of this work demonstrate enhanced charge carriers' transportation, a stable performance, and an improvement of H2 generation from ...

Contact Lens-related Complications: A Review

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmic & Vision Research, 2017
Contact lens-related problems are common and can result in severe sight-threatening complications or contact lens drop out if not addressed properly. We systematically reviewed the most important and the most common contact lens-related complications and
