Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Profile and Visual Outcome of Patients having Keratoconus Attending Tertiary Eye Hospital, Nepal

open access: yesJournal of Nobel Medical College
Background: Keratoconus is a bilateral, asymmetric, chronic, progressive ectasia of the cornea in which patients experience distorted vision that is usually treated with rigid contact lenses when spectacles no longer provide adequate vision.

Contact Lens Use Advice–Risks and Outcomes: Are Patients Drowning in Information but Starved for Knowledge?

open access: yesTürk Oftalmoloji Dergisi, 2023
Objectives:Microbial keratitis can cause significant visual morbidity and is a common reason for presentation to eye casualty clinics. Contact lens wear and poor contact lens hygiene significantly increase the risk of corneal infection.

Comparison of Ocular Microbiome in Non-contact Lens and Contact Lens Users [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2020
Introduction: The resident/normal flora of conjunctiva is linked to infections of the eye in most cases in the wake of ocular surgery, trauma, implants in the eye or contact lens-related infections.

Stress concentration in periodically rough hertzian contact: Hertz to soft-flat-punch transition

open access: yes, 2016
We report on the elastic contact between a spherical lens and a patterned substrate, composed of an hexagonal lattice of cylindrical pillars. The stress field and the size of the contact area are obtained by means of numerical methods (discrete Green's ...

Wearable smart sensor systems integrated on soft contact lenses for wireless ocular diagnostics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Wearable contact lenses which can monitor physiological parameters have attracted substantial interests due to the capability of direct detection of biomarkers contained in body fluids. However, previously reported contact lens sensors can only monitor a

Four‐Point Bending Tests at High Temperatures on Commercial MgO‐C Refractory Bricks with and Without Recyclate Considering Different Carbon Contents

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

Fabrication of Miniaturized Variable-focus Lens Using Liquid Filling Technique [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper describes a simple method for fabricating a variable-focus lens by using PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane) and filling with liquid for the variable-focus lens. The lens diameter of 2-mm was designed in this experiment and expected to reach the focal
