Direct contact melting with asymmetric load
International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2005Abstract In this study, direct contact melting with an asymmetric load was investigated both experimentally and by numerical analysis. A rectangular parallelepiped solid on a heating surface was melted under various asymmetric loads, while total load acting on the solid and brine temperature were kept constant.

Contact Loading of a Rubber Disk
Tire Science and Technology, 1985Abstract A computational method is described for the analysis of deformable bodies loaded against rigid surfaces. The deformable body is modeled by three‐dimensional isoparametric elements. A contact algorithm determines the nodes that come into contact with each loading step; the finite element analysis computes the size and shape of the ...

The Lubrication of Highly Loaded Contacts
1991In Chapter 5 the hydrodynamic build-up of a lubricating film between the moving surfaces was examined. However, if the pressure between the surfaces becomes very high, there are two extra effects which have to be taken into account when assessing the performance of the lubricated contact: the increase of viscosity with pressure and the local elastic ...

Contact Fatigue under Oscillatory Normal Load
A S L E Transactions, 1963Experimental studies were made wherein contact fatigue was brought about by a cyclic variation of normal load applied to the contact between a ball and a flat specimen. Curves of flat-specimen temperature versus time showed that a rapid temperature rise occurred in the initial stage of crack formation rather than after the appearance of fully developed

CONTACT PRESSURES IN THE LOADED HUMAN CADAVER HIP
The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 1975The purpose of the work described was to find the average pressure on each of several areas of the acetabular cartilage of the cadaver hip under physiological loads. By obtaining load-deflection curves for one chosen area of cartilage, firstly with all the cartilage present and then after the successive removal of other areas, the fractions of the ...

Contact Resistance Measurements at Low Loads
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1958A modification of the fine-wire loop technique for studying surface contact resistances, as developed originally by Savage and Flom, is described. The principal change is substitution of quartz fiber for platinum wire as the resilient part of the probe. The contact end of the probe consists of either platinum or gold—other metals could be used as well.

Material Response to Rolling Contact Loading
Journal of Tribology, 1985The material response to rolling contact loading has been analyzed using quantitative X-ray diffraction methods. This has led to the discovery of preferred crystalline orientation in very narrow subsurface regions of endurance-tested 6309 deep groove ball bearing inner rings.
