Frictional elastic contact with periodic loading
Quasi-static frictional contact problems for bodies of fairly general profile that can be represented as half planes can be solved using an extension of the methods of Ciavarella and Jager. Here we consider the tangential traction distributions developed when such systems are subjected to loading that varies periodically in time.

Strength through diversity: how cancers thrive when clones cooperate
Intratumor heterogeneity can offer direct benefits to the tumor through cooperation between different clones. In this review, Kuiken et al. discuss existing evidence for clonal cooperativity to identify overarching principles, and highlight how novel technological developments could address remaining open questions.

The wheel–rail contact force is a crucial indicator for ensuring the secure operation of a heavy-load train. However, obtaining the real-time wheel–rail contact force of a heavy-load train is a challenging task as, due to safety considerations, it is not

THREE-DIMENSIONAL FRACTAL MODEL OF DAMPING FOR TANGENTIAL CONTACT IN JOINT INTERFACES
Based on fractal theory, continuous smooth exponential model of elastic-plastic contact, and considering the influence of friction factors and applying an improved W-M function that simulating three-dimensional fractal profile surface, the fractal model of ...

Stryker Osteonics: Prosthetic Knee Joint [PDF]
We examine, within a simple bearing model of a knee joint that only consideres pure sliding, the effect of the presence of a small vertical hole in the load area on the fluid film properties.

Nanoindentation Of Si Nanostructures: Buckling And Friction At Nanoscales [PDF]
A nanoindentation system was employed to characterize mechanical properties of silicon nanolines (SiNLs), which were fabricated by an anisotropic wet etching (AWE) process.

Law of Friction: from Tribology to Tribo-Fatigue. Report 3. Experimental Studies
To date, many laws of nature have been discovered. The knowledge of each of them led to the accelerated development of the relevant sections of Science and further, as a rule, to progress in any practical area of the community of people.

We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

A semi-analytical approach to the elastic loading behaviour of rough surfaces
The elastic loading behaviour of rough surfaces is derived based on the physical understanding of the contact phenomena, where the pressure distribution is analytically obtained without any negative values or convergence problems, thus the evolution of ...
