Mathematical Modeling in Contact Mechanics
2023Summary: We present some considerations on the modeling and variational analysis of mathematical models describing the contact between a deformable body and an obstacle. We exemplify our approach by the study of an elasto-visco-plastic problem with a normal compliance and Coulomb friction.

An Analytical Model of Joint Contact
Journal of Biomechanical Engineering, 1990The stress distribution in the region of contact between a layered elastic sphere and a layered elastic cavity is determined using an analytical model to simulate contact of articulating joints. The purpose is to use the solution to analyze the effects of cartilage thickness and stiffness, bone stiffness and joint curvature on the resulting stress ...

Dissipative Contact Force Models
2016In this chapter, some of most relevant dissipative contact force models utilized in multibody dynamics are presented. In particular, attention is given to the constitutive laws proposed by Kelvin and Voigt, Hunt and Crossley, Lankarani and Nikravesh, and Flores et al. Additionally, other nonlinear contact force models are briefly presented. The contact

Semi-analytic method of contact modelling
Proceedings 2006 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2006. ICRA 2006., 2006An algorithm to improve the accuracy and stability of rigid-body contact force calculation is presented. The algorithm uses a combination of analytic solutions and numerical methods to solve a spring-damper differential equation typical of a contact model. The solution method employs the recently proposed patch method, which especially suits the spring-

Modeling contact talk on television
2019Drawing inspiration from a broad range of work that focuses on processes of register formation, human contact, and social value this chapter proposes the concept of modeling contact talk. My empirical focus are a range of television broadcasts. I use the term model to refer to how such representations model language in social life as well as how ...

Contact Hypersensitivity Models in Mice
2013The contact hypersensitivity (CHS) reaction is commonly utilized to study cell-mediated host immune responses to epicutaneously applied allergens. This reaction is divided into two distinct phases, the afferent phase and the efferent phase. During the afferent phase of this model, mice are exposed to a contact allergen, which is typically a hapten that

Modeling of robots in contact with a dynamic environment
IEEE Transactions on Robotics and Automation, 1994A control-oriented modeling approach for describing kinematics and dynamics of robots in contact with a dynamic environment is presented. In many robotic tasks the manipulator in contact cannot be simply modeled as a kinematically constrained system. Conversely, modeling of robot-environment interactions through dynamic impedance may not fit the task ...

Modeling Epidemics with Variable Contact Rates
Theoretical Population Biology, 1995In this paper we look at models for epidemics where the contact rate is a monotone increasing function of the population density. The background death rate also depends on the population density. We first examine the case of a constant contact rate (motivated by AIDS) and here obtain some global stability results.
