Intraocular pressure with miniscleral contact lenses

Vestnik oftal'mologii, 2021
According to literature data, some experts do not exclude the possibility that scleral lens wear could influence intraocular pressure. To evaluate the influence of rigid gas permeable miniscleral contact lenses on intraocular pressure (IOP), keratometry readings and corneal thickness, and to study the correlation between scleral (IOPs) and corneal (IOPc)

Distribution of contact pressure in wheel–rail contact area

Wear, 2002
Abstract The authors have recently assessed the feasibility of applying an ultrasonic technique for investigating contact problems between the wheel and rail. In particular, the size and shape of the contact area have been determined, obtaining good agreement between the experimental data and Hertz’s theory.

Capillary pressure, osmotic pressure and bubble contact areas in foams

Soft Matter, 2021
The capillary pressure of foams and emulsions is the difference between the average pressure in the dispersed phase and the pressure in the continuous phase.

The consequences of contact pressure in phyllotaxis

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1977
Abstract To determine the consequences of contact pressure in phyllotaxis, a mathematical model is constructed in which a leaf distribution is represented by a point lattice of n + 1 lattice points at equal intervals on a helix wound around a cylinder.

Pressure Field Contact

2022
113 pages ; Supplemental file(s) description: None. ; Pressure field contact (PFC) generalizes the flat Winkler elastic foundation model to contact situations with arbitrary, non-convex, coarsely meshed solid geometries. PFC calculates the deformed contact surface, the traction distribution on that surface, and, consequently, the net wrench (the net ...

Contact pressure in indented elastohydrodynamic lubrication contacts

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2008
Indents perturb the pressure and stress distribution and increase the failure risk. Existing theory for roughness deformation is extended to pure-rolling elastohydrodynamic lubrication indented contact pressure perturbations. First, a study of shallow indents is proposed, then it is modified to account for non-linear behavior of deeper indents.

Superconductive Pressure Contacts

Journal of Applied Physics, 1968
Superconductive contacts are nearly as old as superconductivity itself; in 1914, only three years after he had discovered superconductivity, Kamerlingh-Onnes1 found that a Pb–Pb contact carried supercurrents. Significantly, extreme cleaning of the contact surfaces was not necessary.

Finger joint contact areas and pressures

Journal of Orthopaedic Research, 1985
AbstractAlthough the joints of the index finger are similar geometrically and kinematically, the occurrence of degenerative joint disease is more frequent and severe in the distal interphalangeal joint. Much circumstantial evidence exists to suggest a mechanical cause for the observed differences in frequency.

Contact Pressure Fluctuations

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 1996
This paper reintroduces an alternative plasticity index where σ m is the r.m.s. profile slope.

Contact Pressure and Stress Distribution

1995
A foundation is the interface between a structural load and the ground. The stress q applied by a structure to a foundation is often assumed to be uniform. The actual pressure then applied by the foundation to the soil is a reaction, called the contact pressure p and its distribution beneath the foundation may be far from uniform.
