Contact stress in stranded cable
Experimental Mechanics, 1965An experimental study of interstrand contact stresses existing in a stranded cable while it rests in its supporting clamp has been made using the stress-freezing photoelastic technique. Comparing the results with the Hertz contact-stress theory made it possible to establish criterion for suspension-clamp design.

Contact Stress in a Gerotor Pump
Fluid Power Systems and Technology, 2003The aim of the first part of this paper is to reach the optimum design parameters of a gear set when it works as part of an internal gear pump type gerotor. The performance of the gear teeth and the whole gear set are evaluated through analytical studies to obtain the maximum contact stress in gear teethe and the volumetric characteristics.

2001
The contribution deals with a class of contact optimal shape design problems the main goal of which is to drive contact stresses between elastic bodies in mutual contact. The reciprocal variational formulation is used as a tool for their numerical realization. Such a formulation makes possible to approximate directly contact stresses.

Non Contacting Stress Monitoring
2008Key input data for SIM calculations are the service stresses and the defect size. For some applications only the service stresses are required. For well designed structures this could be for stresses that arise during construction and early service life. For other situations it may be necessary to monitor crack/defect size and the local stress.

Analytical stresses in rough contacts
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2010The pressure distribution generated by rough surfaces contact induces high stresses just beneath the surface. These stresses are at the origin of several failure mechanisms such as wear, crack initiation, etc. Therefore, it is important to be able to predict these stresses.

Tyre-to-ground contact stresses
Wear, 1958Abstract Because pneumatic tyres not only carry the weight of a vehicle but propel and guide it, the study of tyre-to-ground contact stresses is one of importance. Unlike the case of metal rolling on metal the tangential forces and consequent movements between the rubber tyre and rigid ground are probably of greater importance than the normal ...

The contact stress in novikov gears
Mechanism and Machine Theory, 1989Abstract The contact stresses are calculated for a number of Novikov gear pairs, using a newly developed method for the exact determination of the principal curvatures in the teeth.

Contact Stresses in Rolling Bearings
2016The Hertzian pressure (normal stress) in the contact zone between the ball/roller and raceways causes a plastic deformation of the ball/roller contour. In the contact area, the oil-film thickness is nearly constant at the height h c and reduces to the height at h min at the outflow of the contact zone (cf. Chap. 4). The Hertzian pressure p H in the oil
