Portable contactless caliper

Applied Optics, 2023
This work presents a portable optical meter for noncontact thickness measurement. The device shines a focused laser light on a thin and transparent sample, resulting in an interference between light reflecting from the top and from the bottom surface, and the interfering pattern is recorded by a linear sensor array before data ...

Contactless measurement of torque

Mechatronics, 2000
Abstract This paper describes a micromechanical sensor for contactless detection of torque at rotating shafts. The sensor consists of a silicon chip and uses a magnetoelastic principle for measurement. A closed magnetic loop is formed by the sensor chip and a magnetoelastic layer which is applied to the shaft.

Contactless Nerve Stimulating Transducer

IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, 1972
Stimulation of nervous tissue by means of an induced electric field produced by a contactless device is described. The unit is unique because it lends itself to surgical implantation.

Contactless photoconductive terahertz generation

Optics Letters, 2011
We describe a pulsed terahertz (THz) emitter that uses a rapidly oscillating, high-voltage bias across electrodes insulated from a photoconductor. Because no carriers are injected from the electrodes, trap-enhanced electric fields do not form. The resulting uniform field allows excitation with a large laser spot, lowering the carrier density for a ...

Contactless abnormal gait detection

2011 Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2011
We present a new method to detect abnormal gait based on the symmetry verification of the two-leg movement. Unlike other methods requiring special motion captors, the proposed method uses image processing techniques to correctly track leg movement. Our method first divides each leg into upper and lower parts using anatomical knowledge.

Contactless medical sensing

2015 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium, 2015
Radar technologies are emerging for health monitoring. The possibility of characterizing speed and distance in a contactless way opens up a range of practical applications, such as allowing elderly to reside longer in their familiar environment. Research has been focusing at first at single radar solutions targeting vital signs monitoring and detection
