Flow and Containment of Injected Wastes

Groundwater Monitoring & Remediation, 1986
Abstract Proper design, construction, testing and maintenance of Class 1 (hazardous waste) injection wells can guarantee that all waste is delivered to the injection zone. To assess the effects of waste injection, analytical models were developed which predict waste movement and pressure increases within the injection zone, and ...

Magnetohydrodynamic Flow in a Container

The Physics of Fluids, 1969
A linear theory for steady rotational motions is presented under the assumptions that Rm and ε are much less than E where Rm, ε, and E are the “rotational” magnetic Reynolds, Rossby, and Ekman numbers, respectively. The effect of the “rotational magnetic force coefficient,” N2 ( = σμ2 H02/ρΩ), which is a measure of the relative importance of the ...

Container Flows and Truck Routes in Inland Container Transportation

2015
In the inland container transportation problem, one trucking company operating a homogeneous fleet of trucks has to move 40-ft. containers. The recent extension to this problem is to introduce two different commodities, namely 20- and 40-ft. containers, instead of only 40-ft. containers.

Comparing the effectiveness of different metaheuristics for optimization of flows of containers in a containers terminal

2014 International Conference on Advanced Logistics and Transport (ICALT), 2014
In this paper we propose a model of decision support to optimize the physical flows of the supply chain port. The physical flow, considered here, is a group of containers. To optimize these flows, we have developed a mathematical model proposing an allocation of incoming vessels on the waterfront in a way to minimize the total distance traveled by ...

Capillary flow in containers of polygonal section

AIAA Journal, 2001
An improved understanding of the large-length-scale capillary flows arising in a low-gravity environment is critical to that engineering community concerned with the design and analysis of spacecraft fluids management systems. Because a significant portion of liquid behavior in spacecraft is capillary dominated, it is natural to consider designs that ...

Flow and flow orientation of composites containing anisometric particles

Polymer Composites, 1986
Abstract There is a growing commercial and academic interest in polymeric composites filled with short fibers and/or glass or mica flakes. Here, the properties depend strongly on the flow induced morphology and on the distribution of residual stresses.

Laminar Flow in a Cylindrical Container With a Rotating Cover

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1982
Unsteady and steady flow in a cylindrical chamber with a rotating cover has been studied for two Reynolds numbers and three aspect ratio values. The structure of the velocity and pressure fields in the apparatus is described. Primary and secondary volumetric flow rates and torque coefficients are also calculated for all six cases solved.

Casson fluid flow in a microchannel containing a flow disturbing rib

Chemical Engineering Science, 2016
Abstract This work numerically studies the flow of a Casson liquid over a flow-disturbing rib in a rectangular μ -channel. The aim is to investigate, using a previously validated CFD code, the effect of the non-Newtonian behavior on the fluid flow characteristics, i.e.

Predictive Control of Container Flows in Maritime Intermodal Terminals

IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, 2013
Predictive control is investigated as a paradigm for the allocation of handling resources to transfer containers inside intermodal terminals. The decisions on the allocation of such resources are derived from the minimization of performance cost functions that measure the lay times of carriers over a forward horizon basing on a model of the container ...

Acoustic energy flow in lined ducts containing uniform or “plug” flow

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1973
In connection with the method (used in simple insertion loss models) of relating, approximately, the perturbed duct field to the acoustic field radiated from the duct termination, expressions have been formulated for the energy flows associated with individual modes, according to certain definitions.
