A Resolution Independent Solution for Confined Axisymmetric Vortex Breakdown Flow

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2007
Numerical simulation is performed for the vortex breakdown flows induced in a cylindrical container with rotating top disk. Solutions are obtained for the parameter ranges where steady axisymmetric flows are stable with respect to asymmetric disturbances.

Two-dimensional turbulence dispersion in a closed domain: Influence of confinement and geometry

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2019
The spreading of passive particles immersed in a two-dimensional turbulent flow confined within a closed domain is studied analytically and numerically. The primary goal is to investigate the effect of the confinement and the geometry of the container on

CONTAINING OIL SLICKS IN FLOWS OF FINITE DEPTH

open access: yesCoastal Engineering Proceedings, 1972
The hydrodynamics of oil slick containment are examined. It is shown that containment is only possible when a densimetric Froude number based on flow velocity and depth and the oil density is less than a critical value. Experiments confirmed that an oil slick was unable to maintain a stationary front when the Froude number exceeded the critical value ...
