Automation in Port Container Terminals

open access: yesProcedia - Social and Behavioral Sciences, 2014
AbstractThis paper introduces the concept of automation and port container terminals and addresses some general considerations vis-à-vis automation in this type of port facilities. It further advances current knowledge on this topic by introducing an automation philosophy that adapts the implementation of automation technologies currently available on ...

Super‐Resolution Ultrasound Based Cell Tracking With Polymeric Nanobubbles

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a super‐resolution ultrasound platform for tracking cells in vivo. Biocompatible polymeric nanobubbles are used as highly echogenic intracellular labels. Following the injection of cells and microbubbles, ultrasound localization microscopy (ULM) can dynamically match the microvascular architecture and individual cell trajectories ...

Femtosecond‐Laser Mould Texturing Enables Tunable Biointerfaces in COC Microfluidics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Femtosecond‐laser texturing of injection‐mould inserts enables scalable engineering of biointerfaces in cyclic olefin copolymer microfluidics. Replicated micro‐ and nano‐topographies modulate surface roughness and wettability, leading to texture‐dependent protein adsorption and cell adhesion without chemical post‐processing.

Parallel Electrical Integration of Photo Bio Electrochemical Systems (photo‐BESs): Performance Gains and Load Dependency

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Parallel wiring of bioelectrochemical devices with conventional generators unexpectedly boosts output. A biophotovoltaic paired with a solar cell delivers up to 50% more power at low loads than their separate contributions; a plant microbial fuel cell shows similar current gains.
