Mixotrophic cyanobacteria and microalgae as distinctive biological agents for organic pollutant degradation

open access: yesEnvironment International, 2013
Millions of natural and synthetic organic chemical substances are present in both soil and aquatic environments. Toxicity and/or persistence determine the polluting principle of these substances.

A Different Perspective on the Solid Lubrication Performance of Black Phosphorous: Friend or Foe?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Researchers investigate black phosphorous (BP) as a standalone solid lubricant coating through ball‐on‐disc linear‐reciprocating sliding experiments in dry conditions. Testing on different metals shows BP doesn't universally reduce friction and wear. However, it achieves 33% friction reduction on rougher iron surfaces and 23% wear reduction on aluminum.

Control of on-orbit contamination for the Argos (P91-1) satellite [PDF]

open access: yes
The ARGOS (P91-1) satellite presents a challenging combination of on-orbit contamination concerns while mandating a low-cost approach. Several experiment payloads contain contamination sensitive optics, another contains large quantities of CO2 and Xe for

Analysis of Temperature and Stress Distribution on the Bond Properties of Hybrid Tailored Formed Components

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Hybrid materials enable high‐performance components but are challenging to process. This study explores an inductive heating concept with spray cooling for steel–aluminum specimens in a two‐step process including friction welding and cup backward extrusion.

Innovations in chemical degradation technologies for the removal of micro/nano-plastics in water: A comprehensive review

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Micro/nanoplastics (M/NPs) in water have raised global concern due to their potential environmental risks. To reestablish a M/NPs free world, enormous attempts have been made toward employing chemical technologies for their removal in water.

Phase Stability Study of the Marcasite‐Structure Solid Solutions (Fe,TM)Sb2 (TM = Cr, Ni) Synthesized via Combinatorial Co‐Deposition and Antimonization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase diagrams of transition‐metal di‐pnictides have been efficiently and quickly explored by combinatorial deposition of transition‐metal films and subsequent antimonization enabling the study of compounds with volatile elements. In (Fe,Ni)Sb2 and the (Fe,Cr)Sb2 substitution series, phase separation has been evidenced between class‐A and B marcasites ...
