Shifting spaces of contention

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Turkish Studies, 2018
The development of contentious collective action in Egypt has encouraged the emergence of new spaces of protest, but also the development of new strategies of opposition.

A Scalable Hybrid MAC Protocol for Massive M2M Networks

open access: yes, 2013
In Machine to Machine (M2M) networks, a robust Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol is crucial to enable numerous machine-type devices to concurrently access the channel.

Hidden Terminal-Aware Contention Resolution with an Optimal Distribution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Achieving low-power operation in wireless sensor networks with high data load or bursty traffic is challenging. The hidden terminal problem is aggravated with increased amounts of data in which traditional backoff-based contention resolution mechanisms ...

Contention-based traffic priority MAC protocols in wireless body area networks: A thematic review

open access: yesEgyptian Informatics Journal, 2023
Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) healthcare application is a group of heterogeneous-natured Bio-Medical Sensor Nodes (BMSNs) used to sense and monitor a patient’s vital signs, in the long run, under natural physiological conditions, without affecting ...

Bounds on Contention Management in Radio Networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The local broadcast problem assumes that processes in a wireless network are provided messages, one by one, that must be delivered to their neighbors. In this paper, we prove tight bounds for this problem in two well-studied wireless network models: the ...

Inhibitor of DNA binding‐1 is a key regulator of cancer cell vasculogenic mimicry

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated expression of transcriptional regulator inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) promoted cancer cell‐mediated vasculogenic mimicry (VM) through regulation of pro‐angiogenic and pro‐cancerous genes (e.g. VE‐cadherin (CDH5), TIE2, MMP9, DKK1). Higher ID1 expression also increased metastases to the lung and the liver.

Cortical Excitability Before and After Long‐Term Perampanel Treatment for Epilepsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Antiseizure medications (ASMs), which may influence cortical excitability, are the mainstay of epilepsy treatment. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) helps evaluate cortical excitability. We assessed changes in TMS responses using serial TMS measurements in people treated with an adjunctive noncompetitive AMPA‐receptor ...

An analytical model of contention in wireless sensor networks using tree routing

open access: yesTạp chí Khoa học và Công nghệ
Presently, the focus of current research on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is predominantly on contention at the MAC layer, overlooking the traffic characteristics of upper-layer traffic, especially the interaction with the routing traffic.

Efficient Lock-free Binary Search Trees

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper we present a novel algorithm for concurrent lock-free internal binary search trees (BST) and implement a Set abstract data type (ADT) based on that. We show that in the presented lock-free BST algorithm the amortized step complexity of each

ALOHA Random Access that Operates as a Rateless Code [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Various applications of wireless Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications have rekindled the research interest in random access protocols, suitable to support a large number of connected devices.
