Coding for content: enhanced resolution from coding

Proceedings., International Conference on Image Processing, 2002
This paper describes a new video coding algorithm [Kermode 1994] that extends the traditional hybrid transform coding techniques used in MPEG in two ways. First, pictures are analyzed and segmented into a number of regions roughly corresponding to the background and any moving foreground objects.

Spirituality Unplugged: A Review of Commonalities and Contentions, and a Resolution

Canadian Journal of Occupational Therapy, 2002
Spirituality is an important and essential component of occupational therapy, but recent publications in occupational therapy literature also raise questions about the adequacy of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists' definition of spirituality and the relationship of spirituality to occupational performance.

Distributed Contention Resolution in Broadcast Control Systems

2018 IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), 2018
The flexibility of a control system can be improved by closing the loop over a wireless network. In these systems, however, the controller is generally assigned to the plant a priori. In this paper, a novel distributed control architecture called the broadcast control system is introduced.

Contention Resolution in OBS Networks

2009
OBS networks using the JET/JIT reservation mechanism, which is a one-way and unacknowledged reservation mechanism, provide connectionless switching. Due to this feature, the bursts may contend with one another at the core nodes. Contention among two bursts occurs due to the overlap of two or more bursts (in time) that arrive simultaneously on two ...

Dynamic Content Adaptive Super-Resolution

2004
We propose an automatic adaptive approach to enhance the spatial resolution of an image sequence that allows different regions of the scene to be treated differently based on the content. Experimental results have shown its promise to avoid artifacts that otherwise might result from treating all regions of the scene in the same way during the ...
