Hidden Abstract Stack Markov Models with Learning Process

open access: yesMathematics
We present hidden abstract stack Markov models (HASMMs) with their learning process. The HASMMs we offer carry the more expressive nature of probabilistic context-free grammars (PCFGs) while allowing faster parameter fitting of hidden Markov models (HMMs)

Syphilis in pregnancy: A practical guide for prenatal care providers

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, EarlyView.
Abstract Syphilis during pregnancy remains a persistent global public health challenge. Untreated or inadequately treated syphilis infection during pregnancy contributes significantly to preventable perinatal morbidity and mortality. In the last five years, a resurgence of syphilis among pregnant women in several regions has led to a concerning rise in

Derivational complexity of context-free grammars

open access: yesInformation and Control, 1982
Derivational time and space complexity of context-free grammars is studied. Minimal linear bounds are given for the number of derivation steps needed to derive a word (time complexity) and for the length of the longest sentential form needed in the derivation of a word (space complexity). Coefficients in linear estimations are grammar dependent, for \(\

Cross‐continental transmission and host adaptation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in China unveiled by population history reconstruction and adaptive evolution signal detection

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
This study showed that four Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) sub‐lineages might be introduced into China 1000–400 years ago via Europe‐China dispersal routes, where they diversified into local clades, and later underwent population expansions that coincided with periods of climatic cooling and warfare.

Gender Differences in Social Cognition and Their Association With Functioning in Individuals With Non‐Affective Psychosis

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Psychology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Previous studies in non‐affective psychosis (NAP) consistently found that patients' functioning is associated with social cognition and gender, with higher functioning in female patients. This study investigated the impact of social cognition on the relationship between gender and functioning, and examined psychometric properties of

Context-free grammars with cancellation properties

open access: yesTheoretical Computer Science, 1985
Let F(X) be the free group generated by a set X and \(X^*\) be the free monoid generated by X. If \(Q\subseteq X^*\times X^*\), then [Q] denotes the congruence of \(X^*\) generated by elements of Q and \(\) denotes the congruence of F(X) generated by the elements of Q.

The association between attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder and narrative language: What is the role of executive function?

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Research suggests that Attention‐Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) may be associated with narrative language (or storytelling) difficulties, and executive functioning is hypothesized to underlie this association. However, the contribution of executive function to the narrative language production of children with ADHD is unclear
