Situational context in the programmable world

2017 IEEE SmartWorld, Ubiquitous Intelligence & Computing, Advanced & Trusted Computed, Scalable Computing & Communications, Cloud & Big Data Computing, Internet of People and Smart City Innovation (SmartWorld/SCALCOM/UIC/ATC/CBDCom/IOP/SCI), 2017
As the capabilities of smart things increase, the greater the number of scenarios in which they can be used, and the greater the need to develop Web of Things (WoT) systems supporting these situations. Currently, many WoT systems cover predefined scenarios in which users have to configure how smart things behave, depending on their specific needs at a ...

Situating Wearables

Proceedings of the 2017 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2017
Drawing on 168 hours of video recordings of smartwatch use, this paper studies how context influences smartwatch use. We explore the effects of the presence of others, activity, location and time of day on 1,009 instances of use. Watch interaction is significantly shorter when in conversation than when alone.

The Use of Situation Theory in Context Modeling

Computational Intelligence, 1997
At the heart of natural language processing is the understanding of context dependent meanings. This paper presents a preliminary model of formal contexts based on situation theory. It also gives a worked‐out example to show the use of contexts in lifting, i.e., how propositions holding in a particular context transform when they are moved to another ...

Situational Awareness in Context

2013
In this paper we analyze the relationship between context and situational awareness with the aim to get a better understanding of how context information influences situation assessment. The analysis is based on previous research on situational awareness, context and situations.

Situational Context and the Meaning of Drinking

International Journal of the Addictions, 1980
Since most drinking takes place within a social context, a study was designed in which the described situational context of drinking could be systematically varied on the basis of three at least potentially basic contextual characteristics: type of activity or situation, presence of others, and mood.

On modeling context in Situation Management

2014 IEEE International Inter-Disciplinary Conference on Cognitive Methods in Situation Awareness and Decision Support (CogSIMA), 2014
One of the inherit features of cognitive situation awareness and decision support processes is that they are context-dependent. This is hardly disputed by anybody, but as soon one wants to understand what this context dependency means, or even more, what is context and how it relates to a situation then we have to admit that no common understanding ...

A Layered Context Reference Model for Context/Situation Middleware

2008 Seventh International Conference on Grid and Cooperative Computing, 2008
Context middleware is an effective way to isolate the complexity of acquiring, processing and using context/situation from context-aware applications. The context middleware design and implementation needs to support different applications, therefore the corresponding context modeling faces more challenges: how to support different requirement patterns,

Measuring Racial Attitudes in a Situational Context

Psychological Reports, 1970
The Situational Attitude Scale (SAS) was developed to measure the attitudes of whites toward blacks. Each of two forms contained the same situations, bipolar scales and instructions, except that the word “black” was inserted into each situation in Form B and Form A made no reference to race.

Research of Context Situation Awareness Technology

2012 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing Workshops, 2012
Context situation, which means a snapshot of the status of the real world, is formed by integrating a large amount of contexts collected from various resources. How to get the context situation and use the situation to provide better services is a challenging issue.

Project contexts to situate personal information

Proceedings of the 29th annual international ACM SIGIR conference on Research and development in information retrieval, 2006
The Personal Project Planner prototype works as an extension to the file manager to provide people with rich-text overlays to their information (folders, files and also email, web pages, notes). Rich-text, document-like project plans can be created which then provide a context in which to create or reference the email messages, electronic documents ...
