ESTIMATES of denudation often enter into geologic argument and have to be extrapolated backwards over geological intervals of time. The importance of human activity in the present-day erosional cycle has been pointed out by Douglas1 and has been carefully evaluated by Judson2 in a comparison of world-wide river load estimates with data from the nearly ...

Abstract In a previous communication, 1 we reported on the creation of a continent vesicostomy using an intussuscepted anterior bladder flap tube. This procedure was performed on ten dogs and was successful in producing continence in eight. Emptying of the bladder was accomplished by intermittent unsterile catheterization of the stoma.

AbstractHistological and electron microscopic studies, perfusion manometry, and electromyography document the suitability of using intestinal smooth muscle to construct a sphincteroplasty. Postoperative results, surgical experience, and enterostomal therapy over the past 4 years are discussed.

Recent progress in the analyses of the mouse transcriptome leads to unexpected discoveries. The mouse genomic sequences read by RNA polymerase II may be six times more than previously expected for human chromosomes. The transcript-abundant regions (named "transcription forests") occupy more than half of the genomic sequence and are divided by ...

In Southern California, the antiapartheid movement constituted a highly visible segment of a wider series of parallel struggles. Invariably, these put communities of color in the forefront of campaigns that linked the global and the local, while

Critical Care Nursing Clinics of North America, 1996
The elderly, critically ill patient is particularly prone to transient and established fecal or urinary incontinence. With proper management, these devastating problems can be managed, alleviated, or prevented promptly. Care of incontinence is not simply a hygienic consideration.
