Advanced Flame Retardant Strategies and Fire Performance Assessment for Safer Photovoltaics in Buildings: A Two‐Part Review

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The integration of photovoltaic (PV) systems into building structures introduces distinct fire risks with critical implications for occupant safety. This review examines the key fire hazards associated with PV implementation and explores mitigation strategies, including flame‐retardant additives.

Exploring the Cloud Top Phase Partitioning in Different Cloud Types Using Active and Passive Satellite Sensors

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2021
One of the largest uncertainties in numerical weather prediction and climate models is the representation of mixed‐phase clouds. With the aim of understanding how the supercooled liquid fraction (SLF) in clouds with temperature from −40°C to 0°C is ...

The distribution and composition of high‐velocity lower crust across the continental U.S.: Comparison of seismic and xenolith data and implications for lithospheric dynamics and history

open access: yes, 2017
The composition of the continental lower crust is not well known. High seismic wave speeds may indicate mafic or garnet‐bearing material, with implications for emplacement history, evolution, and rheological and dynamic behavior. In this contribution, we

Host‐Directed Biomaterials for Combatting Bloodstream Infections: From Macrocyclic Peptides to Immune‐Activating Cell Backpacks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bloodstream infections (BSI) are one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in both civilian and military populations. This paper summarizes recent progress in novel treatment strategies to manage BSI arising from both bacterial and fungal pathogens using molecules, particles, and materials to elicit host‐directed immunity.

Hailpad data analysis for the continental part of Croatia

open access: yesMeteorologische Zeitschrift, 2011
Located at the mid-latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere, Croatia is exposed to frequent occurrence of severe thunderstorms and hail, especially in its continental part. In the 1960s, with the aim of reducing the risk of damage in agricultural production,

A Comparison of Radiocarbon and U/Th Ages on Continental Carbonates [PDF]

open access: yesRadiocarbon, 1992
Authigenic micrite from a playa in the northern Sahara has been dated by both the U/Th and 14C methods. The U/Th ages can be a few thousand years greater or less than the 14C ages obtained on the smallest crystals of micrite. The latter are considered to form a reasonable chronology for the Holocene deposits.

Soft Robotic Excretory Care Simulator for Nursing Education: Functional and Perceptual Biomimetics Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A soft robotic simulator is developed to replicate the digital removal of feces (DRF), a sensitive yet essential nursing procedure. Integrating soft actuators, sensors, and a realistic rectal model, the simulator balances functional fidelity with perceptual realism. Engineering evaluations and nurse feedback confirm its potential to enhance training in
