Change of municipal finances due to suburbanization as a development challenge on the example of Poland

open access: yesBulletin of Geography. Socio-Economic Series, 2017
The article summarizes the results of a study of the impact of suburbanization on the budgets of Polish gminas existing in the zones of influence of big cities. The study covers the 2001-2010 period and examines the zone of influence of 12 most important

Rapid In Vitro Pathological Diagnosis of Glioma Using Dual‐Color Quantum Dot Probes for Precise Intraoperative Resection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glioma resection surgery is challenging because of the infiltrative growth of the tumor into nearby tissue and the different surgical requirements for gliomas with different mutation types. To improve the precision and effectiveness of glioma resection, this study developed a new imaging probe that enables the tumor boundary and mutation status to be ...

A Latent Class Modeling Approach for Differentially Private Synthetic Data for Contingency Tables

open access: yesThe Journal of Privacy and Confidentiality, 2022
We present an approach to construct differentially private synthetic data for contingency tables. The algorithm achieves privacy by adding noise to selected summary counts, e.g., two-way margins of the contingency table, via the Geometric mechanism.

A Smart Fluid‐Hydraulic System Based on MRF Valve Control and Its Application in Flexible Grasping

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces a smart fluid hydraulic system using MRF valve control for flexible gripping. An MRF‐MSV with an integrated excitation coil and micro‐textured damping channels is designed and validated; micro‐texturing increases hydraulic resistance. Coupled with a soft actuator, the MRF‐MSV enables dynamic bending and grasping.

Time Resolved DNA Barcodes for Information Encoding and Dynamic Encryption

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study establishes a molecular information platform based on DNA Temporal Barcodes. Information is encoded through combinations of DNA tags with distinct retention times, while dynamic encryption is achieved through a key‐triggered DNA ligation.

Goodness-of-fit tests for sparse nominal data based on grouping

open access: yesNonlinear Analysis, 2012
. For (very) sparse nominal data, common goodness-of-fit tests usually fail. Alternative goodness-of-fit tests based on extended empirical Bayes approach and grouping are proposed and their consistency is proved.

Tutorial on Sample Size Calculations for the precision and the testing of Cohen’s Kappa: a methodological review and new proposals

open access: yesEpidemiology, Biostatistics and Public Health
Introduction We have revised the steps of the sample sizes calculation for the biomedical research. Then, focusing on the agreement studies on qualitative variables we have shown the derivation of the Cohen’s kappa together with the factors ...

D–A Type Perylene Micelles With Synergistic Charge/Energy Transfer for Dual‐Path ROS Generation and Enhanced Photocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dual‐state activation of singlet and triplet excitons is achieved in perylene‐based nanomicelles via donor engineering. By synergistically pairing charge transfer with energy transfer pathways, while concurrently enabling pollutant pre‐enrichment, this strategy establishes spatial coupling between efficient ROS generation and rapid mineralization ...

A Dual‐Modal Wearable PPG Smartwatch with AI‐Enhanced Correction for High‐Accuracy and Continuous AF Burden Assessment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Atrial fibrillation (AF) increases the risk of stroke and heart failure, yet accurate quantification of AF burden in daily life remains difficult. Although smartwatch photoplethysmography (PPG) supports continuous monitoring, complex rhythms and signal noise can impair burden estimation.
