Modeling particle-laden and poroacoustic flow phenomena via the generalized continua approach

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2017
With a focus on acoustic phenomena, we investigate several dual-phase (i.e., fluid-solid) flows using the generalized continua (GC) modeling approach, where by “GC” we mean modern generalizations of the constitutive relations of classical continuum mechanics that seek to capture the impact of sub-scale structure/dynamics on the (macroscopic) field ...

Whitney maps and generalized continua

Topology and its Applications, 2023
In this paper the authors use Whitney maps within the class of generalized continua. Besides classical Whitney maps they use a special kind of such maps termed compactwise proper Whitney maps. They consider various types of connectedness and prove that they are Whitney properties.

GENERATING FUNCTION FOR BERNOULLI NUMBERS AND ITS GENERALIZATIONS

JOURNAL OF MECHANICS OF CONTINUA AND MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES
This paper explores certain generalizations of the generating function of Bernoulli numbers, the computation of integrals, and the investigation of the convergence of integrals from these functions.

Hereditarily indecomposable continua as generic mathematical structures

Selecta Mathematica, 2022
We characterize the pseudo-arc as well as P-adic pseudo-solenoids (for a set of primes P) as generic structures, arising from a natural game in which two players alternate in building an inverse sequence of surjections.

Micro and macro material symmetries in generalized continua

International Journal of Engineering Science, 1986
Material symmetry restrictions on constitutive moduli of anisotropic elastic solids formed by different modes of aggregation (i.e. with material elements having micro and macro domains characterized by scales of different length) are investigated. An analysis is presented of the combined influence of anisotropy, substructure orientation, and long ...

Der moderne Staatsbegriff und die Transformation der griechischen Polis zum Staat (II)

Dike - Rivista di Storia del Diritto Greco ed Ellenistico
The following article continues und concludes a first part (published in Dike 27, 2024) on the concept of the state. It tries to analyze when and in which way the Greek polis became a state in the sense of the definition given in part I.

INTERVAL-VALUED OPEN SETS VIA MINIMAL AND MAXIMAL IN INTERVAL-VALUED TOPOLOGICAL SPACES

JOURNAL OF MECHANICS OF CONTINUA AND MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES
This study aims to develop and investigate several classes of interval-valued sets within the framework of Interval-Valued topology. Interval-Valued sets, originally proposed by Yao and later enriched through various generalizations, provide a more ...

Discrete Open and Closed Mappings on Generalized Continua and Newman's Property

Canadian Journal of Mathematics, 1984
In 1930, M. H. A. Newman proved a rather remarkable theorem which has become one of the classical theorems in topology. It has many important applications. A special case of Newman's Theorem is that a periodic homeomorphism of periodn> 1 of a sphereSonto itself must have some orbit which is not contained in a “cap” smaller than a hemisphere.

Homotopical properties of hyperspaces of generalized continua: the proper and ordinary cases

Dissertationes Mathematicae, 2021
An admissible space is a locally compact separable metric space. A continuum is a compact connected admissible space. A generalized continuum is a locally compact connected space. Given a generalized continuum \(X\), the following hyperspaces are considered.
