A simple topological model with continuous phase transition

open access: yes, 2011
In the area of topological and geometric treatment of phase transitions and symmetry breaking in Hamiltonian systems, in a recent paper some general sufficient conditions for these phenomena in $\mathbb{Z}_2$-symmetric systems (i.e.

Novel Genetic Risk Factor Identified for L‐Asparaginase‐Induced Pancreatitis in Pediatric Patients With Cancer

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background L‐asparaginase is a critical component in treatment protocols for pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Acute pancreatitis reactions can necessitate delays and, in some cases, discontinuation of L‐asparaginase, which compromises outcomes.

Exact simulation of coined quantum walks with the continuous-time model

open access: yes, 2016
The connection between coined and continuous-time quantum walk models has been addressed in a number of papers. In most of those studies, the continuous-time model is derived from coined quantum walks by employing dimensional reduction and taking ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Infectious Default Model with Recovery and Continuous Limit

open access: yes, 2008
We introduce an infectious default and recovery model for N obligors. Obligors are assumed to be exchangeable and their states are described by N Bernoulli random variables S_{i} (i=1,...,N).

Continuously indexed graphical models

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B: Statistical Methodology
Abstract Let X={Xu}u∈U be a real-valued Gaussian process indexed by a set U. We show that X can be viewed as a graphical model with an uncountably infinite graph, where each Xu is a vertex. This graph is characterized by the reproducing property of X’s covariance kernel, without restricting U to be finite or countable, allowing the ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

A Continuous Compact DC Model for Dual-Independent-Gate FinFETs

open access: yesIEEE Journal of the Electron Devices Society, 2017
Multiple-independent-gate (MIG) silicon FinFETs were recently shown capable of enabling: 1) device-level polarity control; 2) dynamic threshold modulation; and 3) subthreshold slope tuning down to ultra-steep-slope operation.
