Investment and Consumption with Regime-Switching Discount Rates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper considers the problem of consumption and investment in a financial market within a continuous time stochastic economy. The investor exhibits a change in the discount rate. The investment opportunities are a stock and a riskless account.

Efficacy, safety and cost‐effectiveness of CAR‐T therapy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
CAR T‐cells demonstrate high efficacy in blood cancers, including ALL, MM and DLBCL. Innovations target solid tumours despite challenges such as antigen escape. Combination therapies enhance the delivery and infiltration of CAR T cells. Toxicity, cost and resistance remain major barriers to clinical use.

Continual decision‐making dynamics across biological organisms

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Decision‐making is a central function of adaptive behaviour in biological agents. However, strategies for adaptive decision‐making can vary substantially across species. Here, we aim to extend the comparative scope of decision‐making analyses to phylogenetically diverse organisms.

A Hidden Markov Model to Address Measurement Errors in Ordinal Response Scale and Non-Decreasing Process

open access: yesMathematics, 2020
A Bayesian approach was developed, tested, and applied to model ordinal response data in monotone non-decreasing processes with measurement errors. An inhomogeneous hidden Markov model with continuous state-space was considered to incorporate measurement

Adaptive Continuous time Markov Chain Approximation Model to General Jump-Diffusions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We propose a non-equidistant Q rate matrix formula and an adaptive numerical algorithm for a continuous time Markov chain to approximate jump-diffusions with affine or non-affine functional specifications.

A Taxonomy of Predictive Maintenance as a Basis for Supra‐Regional Sustainability Monitoring—Literature Review

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The concept of predictive maintenance in advanced manufacturing systems is crucial from the point of view of resource efficiency in the era of high competitiveness forced by energy transformation in the digital economy. Against the backdrop of sustainability and the opportunities a data cooperative offers, the combination of predictive ...

Stochastic Sensor Scheduling for Networked Control Systems

open access: yes, 2013
Optimal sensor scheduling with applications to networked estimation and control systems is considered. We model sensor measurement and transmission instances using jumps between states of a continuous-time Markov chain.

Sustainability Challenges to the Steel Industry in a Developing Country: Sanctions and Security Issues at the Forefront

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article contributes to sustainability research by investigating the complex, geopolitically induced challenges faced by industrial supply chains under international sanctions. Using Iran's steel industry as a case, it examines sustainability barriers through the lens of stakeholder theory. A mixed methods approach was employed.

Markov chains and the pricing of derivatives

open access: yes, 2010
A numerical method for pricing financial derivatives based on continuous-time Markov chains is proposed. It approximates the underlying stochastic process by a continuous-time Markov chain.

A hidden Markov model and reinforcement learning‐based strategy for fault‐tolerant control

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract This study introduces a data‐driven control strategy integrating hidden Markov models (HMM) and reinforcement learning (RL) to achieve resilient, fault‐tolerant operation against persistent disturbances in nonlinear chemical processes. Called hidden Markov model and reinforcement learning (HMMRL), this strategy is evaluated in two case studies
