Serial discontinuity in naturally alternating forest and floodplain habitats of a Michigan (USA) stream based on physicochemistry, benthic metabolism, and organismal assemblages

open access: yesJournal of Freshwater Ecology, 2018
We tested the response of several different water quality metrics at 6 sites along a 4-km alternating forest (canopied) and floodplain (non-canopied) reach of the East Branch of the Black River, an undisturbed northern Lower Michigan trout stream, during

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Contractibility of the hyperspace of meager subcontinua, two examples

open access: yesApplied General Topology
Given a metric continuum X, the hyperspace of meager subcontinua of X, denoted by M(X), is the collection of all subcontinua of X with empty interior. Answering questions by Norberto Ordo˜nez, in this paper we construct two dendroids showing that there ...

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

On Pointwise Smooth Dendroids

open access: yesRevista Integración, 2022
This is a survey paper on dendroids, smooth dendroids, and mainly on pointwise smooth dendroids based on the work of J. J. Charatonik and C. Eberhart (dendroids and smooth dendroids) and S. T. Czuba (pointwise smooth dendroids).

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Some discrete approaches to continuum economies [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Given the preferences of the agents of a continuum economy, we define the average and unanimous preference. This allow us to consider several sequences of economies, in which only a finite number of different agents' characteristics can be distinguished.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...
