Perspectives in educating molecular pathologists on liquid biopsy: Toward integrative, equitable, and decentralized precision oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Liquid biopsy enables minimally invasive, real‐time molecular profiling through analysis of circulating biomarkers in biological fluids. This Perspective highlights the importance of training pathologists through integrative educational programs, such as the European Masters in Molecular Pathology, to ensure effective and equitable implementation of ...

The High-Velocity Impact Behaviour of Kevlar Composite Laminates Filled with Cork Powder

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
The literature reports benefits when the cork powder obtained from industrial by-products is used as the filler of composite laminates. For example, while the fatigue life is insensitive to the presence of cork in the resin, significant improvements are ...

Developing evidence‐based, cost‐effective P4 cancer medicine for driving innovation in prevention, therapeutics, patient care and reducing healthcare inequalities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cancer problem is increasing globally with projections up to the year 2050 showing unfavourable outcomes in terms of incidence and cancer‐related deaths. The main challenges are prevention, improved therapeutics resulting in increased cure rates and enhanced health‐related quality of life.

Solitons and fractional statistics

open access: yes, 1995
Solitons in the continuum limit of the Calogero model are derived and shown to correspond to one-particle excitations. The statistical mechanics of exclusion statistics particles is then formulated in terms of a priori probabilities and a path integral ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Operational Modal Analysis: A Tool for Assessing Changes on Structural Health State of Historical Constructions after Consolidation and Reinforcement Works—Jura Chapel (Jerez de la Frontera, Spain)

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2018
Today’s society is sensitive to the architectural heritage conservation. This implies to perform works to maintain these buildings and to assure their structural security. In the last years, the structural analysis of historical masonry constructions has

Assessment of the Lateral Vibration Serviceability Limit State of Slender Footbridges Including the Postlock-in Behaviour

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
The lateral vibration serviceability of slender footbridges has been the subject of many studies over the last few decades. However, in spite of the large amount of research, a common criterion has not been set yet.

Literature study report of plasticity induced anisotropic damage modeling for forming processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A literature study report covering the topics; micromechanics of damage, continuum damage mechanics (gurson model and effective variable concept) and the dependence of damage on strain rate and ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Impact Resisting Mechanisms of Shear-Critical Reinforced Concrete Beams Strengthened with High-Performance FRC

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Reinforced concrete (RC) structures typically present brittle failures by shear or punching under impact loading. High-performance fiber-reinforced concrete (HPFRC) has great potential due to its superior strength and energy absorption.
