Contour charts are of great value ‘providing’, as Hughes says, ‘the navigator with a quick and sure means of comparing the echo sound record he has just made with the variations in contour and so enabling him actually to plot his line of position by soundings’.

Wave Sector Dependent Contour Lines
Volume 2: Structures, Safety and Reliability; Petroleum Technology Symposium, 2007This paper is concerned with estimating the response value corresponding to given annual exceedance probability. In principle, this requires that a full long term analysis is executed. For a linear response this can easily be done. For a non-linear response quantity however, where time domain simulations are required in order to obtain the short term ...

Fast Contour Line Extraction Algorithm Observing Line Continuation
SPIE Proceedings, 1989This paper describes a new contour line extraction algorithm that yields one-pixel-wide contour lines with excellent continuity and low noise from gray-scale images. Conventional methods are extremely slow because the line thinning process, needed after line extraction, is iterative.

Incremental Contour Fusion Based on Line/Line Topological Relation
2010 International Conference on Multimedia Technology, 2010Incremental contour fusion plays a very important role in updating topographic database. The most popular fusion methods in current use depend on manual work basically, in which it results in large workload, low efficiency and it can't ensure the quality of the spatial data.

An Experiment with Contour Lines
The Cartographic Journal, 1979AbstractMap readers are generally faster and more accurate in interpreting relief from layer tint maps than from contour maps. This paper discusses methods of improving contour maps and reports an experiment where conventional contours were compared with contour lines elaborated to produce a 'wedding cake' effect, but this elaboration did not improve ...

Contours of Strong Fraunhofer Lines
Publications of the Astronomical Society of Japan, 1954Abstract Characteristic features of the inner wing contours of very strong Fraunhofer lines have been investigated. At the center of the sun’s disc, the observed contours show a hump at the inner wing. This hump appears in the theoretical non-coherent contour.

Illusory Contours and the Ends of Lines
Perception, 1978A series of lines pointing towards a central region induces an illusory brightness effect that is systematically related to the angle formed by the lines and the contour of the illusory brightness. As the lines veer to become tangents the illusory brightness decreases.
